The Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center (JACC), located at 405 N. William St. in Post Falls, Idaho, is a significant cultural institution with a rich history that spans over a century. The center, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, is dedicated to sharing the arts and its historic building with the community. The JACC's origins trace back to 1921 when Reverend Nathan Fiske played a pivotal role in merging two congregations, the Presbyterian Church and the First Methodist Episcopal Church, into one community assembly known as the Community Presbyterian Church. The physical structures of the original churches, built in 1890 and 1899 respectively, were moved by horses to their current location, where the JACC stands today. The building, which is listed in the National Register of Historical Places, was nearly lost to history when plans were made to demolish it to create a parking lot. However, the demolition was halted when project manager John Rodkey recognized the building's structural soundness and historical significance. This led to a campaign spearheaded by Susan Jacklin to preserve the church. In 1998, Community Building Partners Inc., founded by Susan Jacklin, acquired the property and embarked on a decade-long restoration effort, funded by over a million dollars in donations. The restored building, renamed The Old Church, reopened as the Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center in May 2005. The JACC now serves as a hub for community arts programming and events, featuring spaces such as the grand Celebration Hall with a seating capacity of 200, the Fireside Room & Gallery, the Upstairs Art Gallery, a community kitchen, and a rose-colored Bridal Suite. The center's mission is to enrich the lives of Post Falls residents and those in the surrounding areas through the arts, while also preserving and sharing the story of this historic site. The JACC's facilities, including the Garden Patio and the historic architecture, offer a unique and inspiring setting for various events and classes. The Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center operates with the support of a dedicated staff, including Executive Director Darla Dreyer, and is overseen by a Board of Directors chaired by Wendy McDowell of First Interstate, with members from various professional backgrounds contributing to its governance and success. The JACC's commitment to the arts and community engagement continues to be a testament to the vision and efforts of those who fought to save this historic building, ensuring that it remains a cherished landmark in Post Falls for years to come.
