Idaho Dance Theatre

Idaho Dance Theatre (IDT) is a non-profit performing arts organization that has been an integral part of Idaho's cultural landscape since its incorporation in July 1990. Celebrating over three decades of artistic contribution, IDT operates with a clear mission to create, perform, and teach contemporary dance, thereby enriching the Idaho communities with the experience of dance. The organization is dedicated to producing high-quality dance performances that are personal, innovative, and exciting. To achieve its mission, IDT employs dance artists of the highest caliber and offers a richly diverse repertory that aims to inspire both hearts and minds. The theatre is committed to producing performances that immerse audiences in the experience of live dance, utilizing professional dancers, high production values, and engaging in frequent collaborations with a variety of artists, including musicians, poets, and visual artists. Education is a cornerstone of IDT's activities. Through its Educational Outreach program, the organization presents unique dance performances that educate, engage, and entertain children, providing them with a positive dance experience. The program extends beyond the urban centers to rural areas, ensuring that dance as an art form is introduced to a wide spectrum of people throughout the state of Idaho and the Northwestern region of the United States. IDT's commitment to artistic development is evident in its initiatives such as the New Visions choreography competition, which rewards selected artists with the opportunity to present their work on the company's platform and receive a cash reward. Additionally, the Focus Dance Ensemble, established in 2011, serves as a pre-professional company giving young, dedicated dancers the chance to experience the training and rehearsal process of a professional company. Each season, the Idaho Dance Theatre performs three repertory concerts at the Special Events Center on the campus of Boise State University. These concerts showcase the work of its artistic directors, Marla Hansen and Carl Rowe, as well as choreography from talented guest artists. IDT also emphasizes community outreach and educational programs to impact the cultural landscape and curate unique experiences that bring the creative process to its audience. IDT's efforts to bring Idaho's unique artistic voice to the world stage include developing a collaborative platform that challenges choreographers to create and present new dynamic works, creating a space for talented dancers to develop their profession, and collaborating with international dancers and choreographers both at home and abroad.
