Twelve Angry Jurors is a gripping drama that delves into the complexities of human nature and the American justice system. DANCESCAPES 2024 is a thrilling dance concert showcasing a rich tapestry of movement, rhythm, and emotion.

This year's program features Brandon Collwes of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, who brings Cunningham's original choreography to life in a captivating staging of a 'MinEvent'. Additionally, guest artist Eric Rivera presents an original contemporary work inspired by his profound experiences with Ballet Hispánico, infusing the concert with cultural depth and innovation.

NSU's talented professors and performers will also present a series of pieces that invite audiences to explore the many facets of dance. With inventive choreography, engaging music, and stunning visual elements, DANCESCAPES 2024 promises an unforgettable journey through the beauty and power of dance, pushing the limits of artistic expression.

Celebrate the sound of a nation and a generation coming of age! This dynamic show is a Rock 'n' Roll hit parade that explores the cities, streets and neighborhoods where the music was born.

Destination Rock and Roll

Dr. Robert Cardwell is the Gala director. More than 300 Northwestern State students, faculty and staff in the School of Creative and Performing Arts combine their talents to present the Gala as a kickoff to the Natchitoches Christmas Festival. Large crowds attend the Gala each year which is based on the long-running Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. 

This year’s theme revolves around the favorite family pastime during the Christmas season of sitting at home with loved ones and enjoying some of the many Christmas movie classics. This year’s gala will feature some of the most beloved Hollywood Christmas tunes. As a special treat, we have also chosen an opera-inspired finale in honor of Jim Bob Key, co-founder of the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Society and supporter of the arts at NSULA.

It's 1985, and rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart, is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer's sparkling new score does for the '80s what Hairspray did for the '60s. Just say yes to the most romantic musical in twenty years.

Modern In Motion

What do you do when you know a law is wrong? How far must you take your beliefs? Sophokles' classic tragedy pits Antigone, who insists on burying her brother, against her uncle and king, Creon, who declares that her brother is a traitor and should be left uncovered and dishonored. NSU’s production, featuring Anne Carson’s rich and incisive translation, moves the intergenerational clash of wills from the ancient world into the present day, inviting us to think about our own notions of family and citizenship.
