Emmett Hook Center

Shreveport, LA, United States

The Emmett Hook Center is a state-of-the-art theater located in Downtown Shreveport, at the intersection of 550 Common Street and Milam, at the head of Texas Street. It was established as a cultural venue for the enrichment of both the congregation of the First Methodist Church and the wider community. The center is dedicated to hosting a variety of events, including theatrical productions, concerts, contemporary worship services, lectures, and seminars. Named in honor of Emmett R. Hook, Sr., a prominent figure in Shreveport during the mid-20th century and the President and CEO of Commercial National Bank, the theater stands as a testament to his legacy. His son, Emmett R. Hook, Jr., has continued the family's tradition of community involvement and was a generous benefactor in the construction of the theater. A notable sculpture of Emmett Hook, Jr., created by the acclaimed artist Arthur C. Morgan, is prominently displayed in the lobby, serving as a tribute to the family's contributions. The construction of the Emmett Hook Center was also made possible through the Louisiana Live Performance Tax Credit, a unique incentive program offered by the state of Louisiana. This program, administered by the state agency Louisiana Entertainment, provides up to a 35 percent transferable credit for investments in theatrical and concert infrastructure and production. The Emmett Hook Center is one of the beneficiaries of this program, which aims to foster a sustainable entertainment industry throughout the state. To support its operations, the Emmett Hook Center, Inc. was established as a non-profit organization. The center has become a hub for cultural activities in Shreveport, offering a platform for a wide range of performances and events that cater to diverse audiences. For those interested in attending events or participating in productions, the Emmett Hook Center provides information on auditions and encourages community members to join their production team. The center's box office can be reached at 318-429-6885, while the administrative office is available at 318-429-6887 for further inquiries. Additionally, updates and news about the center can be followed on their Facebook page. The Emmett Hook Center prides itself on being a unique addition to the American church community, offering a space where art and culture can flourish within the context of faith and community service. All rights to the center are reserved, ensuring its continued operation and contribution to the cultural landscape of Shreveport.
