'''Hawai'i Opera Theatre''' Hawai'i Opera Theatre (HOT), the only professional opera company in Hawai'i, has a rich history that intertwines with the cultural fabric of the islands. The organization's roots in Hawai'i date back to the 1850s, a period that saw Queen Emma herself participating in the chorus of Verdi's "Il Trovatore," with King Kamehameha IV taking on the role of stage manager. Officially founded as a division of the Honolulu Symphony Society in 1961 and incorporated in 1980, HOT has since grown to become one of the state's largest performing arts organizations, presenting opera performances and education programs of the highest standard across all the major islands. HOT's mission is to enrich the quality of life in Hawai'i's island communities through the inspirational power and joy of opera. The organization holds a vision that embraces diverse perspectives, cultural histories, life experiences, and personal stories, believing that these elements enrich the operatic repertoire and have the potential to make significant local and global impacts. HOT's values reflect the belief that opera is for everyone, telling all stories through music, and is a complete and collaborative art form integrating visual art, words, vocal and instrumental music, drama, and dance. The organization also recognizes the importance of opera in building a robust and sustainable community and its integral role in a well-rounded education. In May 2019, Andrew Morgan became HOT's fifth executive leader, bringing over 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, singing, and stage directing. Under his guidance, the organization has seen significant developments, such as the most successful Opera Ball in recent memory and the launch of the HOT Digital Initiative in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. HOT's Board of Directors is composed of a diverse group of community leaders, opera patrons, business professionals, and arts supporters who volunteer their time, talent, expertise, and resources to support the organization. The staff, led by General Director Andrew Morgan, works year-round to bring the best in opera to the public and reach thousands of children through award-winning programs. The organization's season productions, engaging STUDIO101 events, and education programs have garnered awards and recognition. HOT is a proud member of Opera America, a national service organization for opera. As HOT looks forward to commemorating 60 years of service to the community, it continues to innovate and inspire, ensuring that the tradition of opera in Hawai'i thrives for future generations. The organization's commitment to artistic excellence, community engagement, and education underscores its status as a cultural pillar in the Hawaiian Islands.
