==Northland Symphony Orchestra Association== The Northland Symphony Orchestra Association (NSOA) is a prominent musical organization based in Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to providing free, quality music performances and educational opportunities. The association is known for its commitment to fostering the musical talents of young musicians through various ensembles and programs. ===History=== The Northland Symphony Youth Orchestra, initially known as the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Kansas City, was established in the fall of 1997 by founders James Murray III and Paul Cooper. The primary aim of the orchestra was to offer young musicians an educational and artistic experience within a full orchestra setting. The focus has always been on combining the joy of making music with learning and growth. Over the years, the Youth Orchestra has been involved in numerous special performance opportunities, including the rededication of the Liberty Memorial and the Great Kansas City Japan Festival. The orchestra has a tradition of commissioning and premiering works by local composers. In recognition of its growing success and to cater to younger musicians, the organization launched the Northland Symphony Youth Sinfonia, previously known as the Metropolitan Youth Sinfonia, after twenty seasons. This addition aimed to provide a nurturing environment for younger students to develop their musical skills and leadership abilities. In 2018, both the Northland Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Northland Symphony Youth Sinfonia became integral parts of the NSOA, further solidifying the association's role in the community. ===New Developments=== In 2023, the NSOA proudly introduced its newest youth ensemble, the Youth Saxophone Ensemble. This ensemble is set to begin its inaugural meetings and performances in the spring of 2023, with a full season planned for the fall. ===Our Mission=== The NSOA's mission is to provide free, quality music performances and education. The organization relies heavily on donations from the community to support its mission. The association encourages public support through various fundraising campaigns, such as the NSO Season 57 Campaign, allowing individuals to become members of the NSOA and contribute to its ongoing success. ===Contact Information=== For those interested in learning more about the Northland Symphony Orchestra Association or wishing to make a donation, the organization can be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at 816.945.2436.
