Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to heightening appreciation and knowledge of the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie, one of the last remaining stands of this unique ecosystem. Founded by leaders from the Flint Hills region in 2004, the organization has been active in promoting the culture and landscape of this area through various educational and cultural events. The first of its annual prairie concerts was hosted by Symphony in the Flint Hills in 2006, marking the beginning of a tradition that combines music, art, and nature to celebrate and preserve the Flint Hills. This signature event, along with others such as WoodFest and the Prairie Art Exhibit and Auction, serves to engage the community and visitors in the organization's mission. Symphony in the Flint Hills works collaboratively with musicians, artists, historians, scientists, and community members to honor the traditions of the region and to envision a future where the Kansas prairie is strengthened by sustaining its unique culture and landscape. The organization's vision is to inspire people to contribute to the conservation and enhancement of the Flint Hills. The staff of Symphony in the Flint Hills includes individuals such as Jeanna Beeman, the Volunteer Coordinator; Sandy Carlson, the Program Manager; and Kelly Tastove, the Operations Manager & Donor Relations Manager. The organization is overseen by a board of directors, with Mike Collinge serving as the Chair and other members from various Kansas communities contributing to its governance. Symphony in the Flint Hills invites the public to join their efforts in stewardship and education to ensure the preservation of the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie for future generations. The organization's work is supported by contributions from the community and the dedication of its volunteers.
