Orchestra New England

New Haven, CT, United States

==Orchestra New England== '''Orchestra New England''' ('''ONE''') is a highly versatile and dynamic orchestra based in the United States, known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and artistic excellence. Founded in March 1974 as the Yale Theater Orchestra, it underwent a name change to the Chamber Orchestra of New England in 1975, before finally becoming Orchestra New England in 1985. The orchestra's founding Music Director, James Sinclair, led ONE to quickly establish itself as one of the most innovative and critically acclaimed orchestras in the Northeast, starting with its premiere concert and subsequent recording of premieres for CBS Masterworks. Over the years, ONE has made a significant mark in the recording industry, particularly noted for its commercial recordings which include world premieres and notable works. Among these are the Villa-Lobos folk opera ''Magdalena'' for CBS Masterworks, Cole Porter’s Broadway hit ''50 Million Frenchmen'' for New World Records, and Charles Ives’s orchestral music for both Naxos and Koch International Classics. The orchestra's recordings have received extraordinary and unanimous critical praise, with its latest release in June 2023 being Charles Ives’s complete Sets for Chamber Orchestra on Naxos. Orchestra New England maintains a robust performance schedule, with a subscription series of concerts in its hometown of New Haven, Connecticut. Historically, the orchestra has performed up to 50 concerts annually across New England and the northeastern U.S. Venues for its subscription concerts include Yale’s Battell Chapel, the United Church on the Green, and the Unitarian Society of New Haven, with frequent broadcasts on Connecticut public radio stations. ONE's presence has also been felt internationally through the Voice of America and National Public Television. The mission of Orchestra New England is multifaceted, focusing on sharing the vitality of great music and fostering a strong connection with audiences and colleagues. It places a strong emphasis on engaging, educating, and empowering youth, and is dedicated to making live music an integral element of community life. The orchestra is known for its versatility, performing as chamber ensembles, jazz bands, pop orchestras, and mid-sized symphony orchestras with a focus on quality, creativity, and energy. Its musicians are recognized for their individual accomplishments as soloists, chamber musicians, and as leading players in Connecticut's major symphony orchestras. Orchestra New England is headquartered at P.O. Box 200123, New Haven, CT 06520-0123, and can be reached at 203-777-4690 or via email at infoorchestranewengland.org.
