Kansas City Repertory Theatre

Kansas City, MO, United States

Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), originally founded as Missouri Repertory Theatre in 1964 by Dr. Patricia A. McIlrath, has been a cornerstone of the regional theatre movement. Dr. McIlrath's vision of using theatre to inspire and transform lives led to numerous memorable productions, including a notable rendition of "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby" in 1983. Following her retirement in 1985, George Keathley and later Peter Altman continued to elevate the theatre's reputation, with Altman overseeing the renaming to KCRep in 2006 and the establishment of the Copaken Stage. Eric Rosen, who joined in 2008, furthered KCRep’s national acclaim with reimagined classics and new works. The theatre underwent significant renovations and rebranding under the leadership of Rosen and Executive Director Angela Lee Gieras from 2013 to 2018. Currently, Artistic Director Stuart Carden, who joined in 2019, is committed to deepening KCRep’s community engagement and celebrating diverse stories. KCRep remains dedicated to its mission of creating transformative theatre experiences and fostering a culturally vibrant Kansas City.
