== Southern Tier Symphony == === About === The Southern Tier Symphony (STS) is an orchestra that aims to deliver an authentic and exceptional orchestral experience for both its musicians and audiences. Founded nearly 20 years ago, the symphony is a professional regional orchestra that includes both professional and semi-professional musicians. The musicians, some of whom travel from as far away as Toronto and Florida, have ties to the Western New York (WNY) area and are recognized for their skills and accomplishments. The STS performs in Olean, NY, and Bradford, PA, and is currently in its 19th season under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Benjamin Grow. === Mission and Values === The mission of the Southern Tier Symphony is to enrich the community by providing engaging, memorable, and meaningful musical experiences. The organization values musical excellence, which it promotes through collaboration, innovation, and integrity. It is dedicated to instilling and nurturing a love and appreciation of music in audiences of all ages, which is reflected in its commitment to offering free admission to students. === Board of Directors === The Executive Board of the Southern Tier Symphony includes President Craig Polson, Vice President Punkie Sinesiou, Treasurer Linda Meyer Lambert, and acting Secretary Kelly Sweet. Cyril Bodnar serves as the Executive Director, and the board is further supported by a diverse group of directors from various backgrounds. === History === The Southern Tier Symphony was founded by John Whitney, who envisioned a regional orchestra that would provide performance opportunities for musicians and enrich the local communities. Whitney, who had returned to New York from a teaching position at Central Florida University, conducted a holiday concert in 2001 that sparked the idea for the formation of the symphony. Through community efforts and collaborations, the first season of the STS was launched in November 2003, with subsequent seasons consisting of three concert weekends. After the passing of founding Music Director and Conductor John Whitney in November 2014, Benjamin Grow was appointed as the new maestro. Under Grow's leadership, the orchestra has continued to perform masterworks by major composers and has become an integral part of the Twin Tier music scene. Despite challenges, such as those posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the symphony has adapted by presenting virtual concerts and engaging with audiences through digital platforms. === Outreach and Educational Efforts === The Southern Tier Symphony is committed to outreach and educational opportunities for the region's youth. Maestro Benjamin Grow, despite residing in Manhattan, has become a significant figure in the local music scene, offering pre-concert chats and educational initiatives that appeal to a broad audience. The symphony's innovative approach to performance during the pandemic allowed for a wider reach, providing audiences with unique concert experiences from the comfort of their homes. == External Links == * [Official Website] * [Upcoming Events] * [Audition Submission] * [Donate to Southern Tier Symphony] == References == <references/>
