"Those at Peace Shall See Their Wake" is a 40 minute site specific, spatial work composed by Orlando Jacinto Garcia, where strings and electronics intertwine to create a mesmerizing soundscape for audiences. The audience will find themselves seated on the 6th floor while the performers inhabit the 7th floor space. It's a transformative encounter that blurs the lines between audience and artist, sound and space.

Born to Polish parents in what is today Lviv, Ukraine, Emanuel Ax moved to Winnipeg, Canada, with his family when he was a young boy. Mr. Ax made his New York debut in the Young Concert Artists Series, and in 1974 won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv. In 1975 he won the Michaels Award of Young Concert Artists, followed four years later by the Avery Fisher Prize.

Dr. José López is Professor & Coordinator of Piano and Organ Performance at Florida International University Wertheim School of Music in Miami, Florida, President of the South Florida Chapter of the American Liszt Society, and Honorary Secretary of the United Kingdom’s Alkan Society. He has performed throughout the United States, Italy, and Central and South America with orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber groups in concert halls, summer festivals such as the Music Festival of the Hamptons in New York and the Killington Music Festival in Vermont. Active throughout South Florida, he has been a featured performer in the Florida International University’s Music Festival; ISCM New Music Miami Festival, the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival, Coral Gables’ Mainly Mozart Series, University of Miami’s Miami Festival, and as founder and co-director of the Deering Estate at Cutler’s “Chamber Music Series.”

The 2024 Miami International GuitART Festival presents Robert Trent in a solo concert, performing a program of the 19th Century Romantic guitar music, featuring works by Fernando Sor, Ferdinando Carulli, and Mauro Giuliani. Dr. Trent has performed on the continents of North and South America and in Europe on modern guitar, Renaissance lute, and historic instruments of the nineteenth-century in particular the 10-string Scherzer and authentic 19thc. guitar. A first prize winner in numerous National and International competitions including; the Webb National Guitar Competition, the Masterworks Young Artist Competition (all instruments) and the chamber music prize at the International Competition “Arturo Toscanini” in Italy in Period Instrumental performance.

The only pianist currently performing Liszt's 24 Etudes as a single program and one of few to tout a concerto list that features over 60 works, Asiya Korepanova is a pianistic powerhouse, who is also highly recognized for her work as a transcriber, composer, visual artist, and poet, reflecting her uncompromising dedication to the arts.

Dr. Philip M. Powell, is a Professor of Music and has been a faculty member at Coastal Carolina University since 1988, teaching piano and piano pedagogy. Since moving to South Carolina, Dr. Powell has maintained an active performing schedule with concerts frequently heard on South Carolina Public Radio. Locally, Dr. Powell has performed with the South Carolina Symphony Orchestra, the Jupiter Symphony and is a frequent soloist with the Long Bay Symphony, playing concerto repertoire ranging from Mozart to Gershwin. As a collaborative pianist, Powell has appeared with artists such as Kennedy Center Honors recipient Martina Arroyo, soprano; Ignat Solzhenitsyn, piano; Sungwon Yang, cello; David Jolley, French horn; and Grammy nominated Tine Thing Helseth, trumpet. He has served as President of the Coastal Concert Association, Music Director of the Festival of Music and Art at Pawley's Island, founding Director of the Musicale de Geneve series and a member of the Board of Directors of the Litchfield Dance Arts Academy and of the Long Bay Symphony. Dr. Powell holds the BMA from the University of Oklahoma, where he studied with Drs. Todd Welbourne and Edward Gates. He also attended the Aspen Summer Music Festival as a student of the late Edith Oppens. Dr Powell holds a Masters of Music from Indiana University, where he was a student of both Karen Shaw, and Shegio Neriki and the Doctorate of Music, also from Indiana University, where he was a student of the late Michel Block.

The trio has been touring internationally since 2000 presenting concerts and giving masterclasses in places such as Ireland, Germany and Italy with a forthcoming tour of Japan in 2020. Stateside, they have since performed at numerous jazz festivals, universities, and top NYC jazz clubs, including Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Mezzrow, and Kitano, and have held an annual residency at the Nashville Jazz Workshop since 2008, where they recorded two of their three albums: Live at the Jazz Cave: Vol. 1 (2013) & Vol. 2 (2017) (see below).

The FIU Latin jazz ensemble consists of graduate and undergraduate students and is directed by Dr. Michael Eckroth. This group plays a range of styles of jazz music influenced by Afro-Caribbean rhythmic styles, Cuban folklore, and the many stylistic fusions created in Latin music hot spots such as New York City. Featuring Latin percussion and a horn section and playing mostly instrumental music, the ensemble offers a high energy take on historical Latin jazz styles The Miami New Times named the group the 'Best Latin Act" of 2020.

The FIU Symphonic Band joins forces with the FIUsion Community Concert Band to bring to the FIU campus an evening of traditional and contemporary band literature.  This concert will feature music by composers Robert W. Smith, Richard Strauss, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Percy A. Grainger, Robert Sheldon, J. Scott McKenzie and John Philip Sousa.  There will be something for everyone on this concert.

The Jazz Vocal Ensemble is directed by Dr. Lisanne Lyons and consists of twelve to fifteen vocalists and a four-piece rhythm section who perform a varied and challenging repertoire of jazz and jazz-influenced music, as well as contemporary, Latin, and a cappella styles.

The Florida International University Saxophone Quartet (FIUSQ) strives to provide its audiences with meaningful musical experiences with exciting programs featuring standard repertoire for the saxophone quartet as well as transcriptions. This group is coached by faculty member, Noah Brisson.
