Students of the USA Trumpet Studio, under the direction of studio professor Peter Wood, will perform their Trumpet Studio Recital on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

USA's Concert Choir and University Chorale will present their Spring Choral Concert on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The ensembles will be conducted by Dr. Laura Moore, as well as several USA choral conducting students.

Concert-goers are encouraged to arrive early to allow for extra time to park and walk to the concert.

USA's Department of Music Spring Honors Recital highlights the performance accomplishments of its students by featuring them in brass, wind, vocal, piano, and percussion repertoire. This Honors Recital will be held in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on Monday, April 22 at 2:30 p.m. Admission to this Department of Music event is free and open to the public.

USA Opera Theatre will present two performances of Gilbert & Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore" on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. USA Opera Theatre is directed by Dr. Thomas L. Rowell.

USA Piano Ensembles Spring Concert

The USA Brass Ensembles will perform their Spring Concert on Wednesday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The ensembles are directed by Dr. Peter Wood. One of the highlights of the concert will be the USA Trumpet Ensemble playing Dave Brubeck's Blue Rondo a la Turk, while the rest of the evening will be filled with brass music by the USA Horn Choir, USA Trombone Choir, USA Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble and the Lavender Brass Quintet.

The USA Flute Choir & Celtic Crúe will perform their Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The ensembles are directed by Dr. Andra Bohnet. Featured on the concert will be "Chivy" by Nicole Chamberlain, and graduating senior Madison Kille will be the flute soloist in Briccialdi's "Carnival of Venice."

The USA Woodwind Ensembles will perform their Spring Concert on Monday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The ensembles are directed by Dr. Kip Franklin and Dr. Amy Selkirk. Featured on the concert will be woodwind trio works by Rontgen and Morris, while clarinet quartet music by Vaughn Williams, Mozart, and Desportes will also appear on the program.

The USA Jazz Ensemble will perform their Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Arie VandeWaa.

Dr. Clayton Maddox, USA Professor of Tuba and Euphonium, will present a faculty recital on Saturday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Performing with Dr. Robert Holm, USA faculty pianist, Maddox' program includes “Tennessee Journey” by Barbara York, and Henry Eccles’ "Sonata in G minor.”

Students of the USA String Ensemble, under the direction of Leonard Ligon, will perform Spring Concert on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. This semester's string chamber group is a "low" string ensemble featuring two celli and two basses and composers featured will include Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns.

USA Trombone Choir Spring Concert

The USA Percussion Ensemble and Jaguar Steel will perform their Spring Concert on Monday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Featuring everything from classic works to newly composed pieces, the USA Percussion Ensemble will present a concert highlighting a variety of musical instruments, styles, and colors. Jaguar Steel will perform traditional music of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as arrangements of contemporary popular music and more. Both ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Brian Nozny.

Dr. Robert Holm, USA Professor of PIano, will present a faculty recital on Tuesday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The concert is subtitled "Music of the Americas," and will include not only USA Romantic and Jazz works but also pieces reflecting the sounds of Brazil and Argentina. Featured highlights on the first half of the program are from North America -- Gottschalk's "The Union," Barber's "Nocturne," three preludes by Gershwin, and "Touches" by Bernstein. The second half of the concert will have music with a South American flavor -- Milhaud's "Saudades do Brasil," Nazareth's "Odeon," and Ginastera's "1st Sonata."

Dr. Kip Franklin, Associate Professor of Clarinet, will present a faculty recital on Friday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Joining Franklin on the concert will be USA faculty members Dr. Robert Holm, piano, and Dr. Marissa Stanfill, clarinet. Featured works on the program include Poulenc's Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, and an original arrangement of von Weber's Fantasia and Rondo.

Zander Westphal will present a Senior Saxophone Recital in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. This recital is presented as a part of the requirements for the degree Bachelor of Music with Concentration in Music Education - Instrumental, and for the degree Bachelor of Music with Concentration in Performance - Instrumental.

Zander Westphal, Senior Saxophone Recital

Ashley Overby, violist, will present a USA Faculty Recital on Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Violinists Dr. Silvia Suárez and Dr. Julie Haring, both colleagues of Overby, will also be a part of this performance, a concert featuring works ranging from the Classic period to modern day. Pieces for string duos on the program will include music by Mozart, Spohr, Vycpálek, and Milhaud.
