The Department of Theatre & Film at the University of Mississippi, commonly referred to as Ole Miss, is a dynamic academic department offering a range of artistic and academic opportunities to its students. The department is recognized for providing individualized attention to its students, facilitated by a faculty with extensive professional experience in their respective fields. The department prides itself on creating a myriad of performance, design, stage management, and production opportunities for students from their freshman year onward. === Academic Programs === Theatre & Film at the University of Mississippi offers four undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with an emphasis in Acting for Stage & Screen, Design & Theatre Production, Film Production, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre Arts. Additionally, the department provides a minor in Theatre Arts and training in various disciplines such as dance, cinema production, and cinema acting. It also supports the college's interdisciplinary cinema minor. The curriculum includes a wide selection of courses covering musical theatre, acting, costume design, lighting design, scenic design, sound design, cinema production, dance, history, and business. === Faculty and Student Body === The department boasts 20 full-time faculty members, which allows for a favorable faculty-to-student ratio of 1:6. This ratio ensures a supportive, artistic, and academic environment for the department's 120-150 enrolled majors. The faculty's dedication to the students' success is a cornerstone of the department's philosophy. === Production Season === Each academic season, Theatre & Film at the University of Mississippi produces a full season of main-stage shows. Auditions are open to all students, with BAs and freshmen often cast in productions. The department encourages student participation in extracurricular groups such as the Ghostlight Repertory Theatre and Ole Miss Student Dance. These groups offer student-produced, directed, choreographed, and performed opportunities, further enriching the students' practical experience. === Mission === The mission of the Department of Theatre & Film is multifaceted. It aims to educate students in the realms of artistry, professionalism, and critical thinking. The department is dedicated to expanding creative and scholarly work in theatre, dance, and cinema on regional, national, and international levels.
