In this humorous yet poignant play, Sharai Bohannon offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lives of call center employees who find themselves navigating Audience Services at the Aria Opera company. These are the unsung heroes of the arts. Those who have worked in customer service will easily relate to the rollercoaster of experiences that come with long working hours, eccentric coworkers, and customers that are often the reason employees yell “Why are you like this?” as they transfer a call (Tickets will be free and facilitated through Eventbrite.

Spring into Dance

In this feminist retelling of Aeschylus’ The Suppliants, fifty blood-stained brides murder their husbands on their wedding night after learning that their father signed a contract forcing them to marry for reasons of politics and property, rather than love. As Kay, Leta, Arianna, Courtney, and Philomena seek refuge, their stories form a complex tapestry of sisterhood and provide insight about the deaths of the men that stood in their way. The Pliant Girls is heartbreaking and, at times, hilarious exploration of love, sexual politics, and the power of redemption.

2024 BFA Dance Showcase

Adapted from the medieval morality play Everyman, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s Everybody is a symbolic journey through life in which the title character, Everybody, searches for a companion—Somebody—who will accompany them to their appointment with Death. Representing the randomness of death, each of Somebodies is assigned by chance at each performance—resulting in many different combinations. Each of these actors must memorize the entire script and be prepared to play any role. This fresh take on a timeless tale playfully satirizes contemporary culture while reminding us that life is a gift.

Cabaret takes audiences deep into the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Club on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Weimar Germany. Led by the enigmatic and dazzling Emcee, Cabaret is an intoxicating theatrical experience that follows the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer, a writer from America, and the denizens of Berlin as they are caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. 

We are excited to introduce Spotlight on Cabaret: a benefit to support the School of Theatre + Dance, Saturday, October 22. This new event to replace Splendor will offer a pre-show reception to exclusively meet the director and performers, enjoy refreshments and libations, preferential seating, and the excitement of the live musical production of Cabaret! Conference of the Birds based on the 12th century poem of the same name by Farid ud-Din Attar, offers a profound journey of the human ego and the quest for truth. Through a captivating narrative, it challenges us to reflect on our place in the world. As the birds of the world take flight on a pilgrimage to find their celebrated king, they explore existential questions and their own identities. This evocative reading highlights our shared humanity while celebrating our individual qualities, showing how our distinct backgrounds enrich our collective experience.
