Spring into Dance

In this feminist retelling of Aeschylus’ The Suppliants, fifty blood-stained brides murder their husbands on their wedding night after learning that their father signed a contract forcing them to marry for reasons of politics and property, rather than love. As Kay, Leta, Arianna, Courtney, and Philomena seek refuge, their stories form a complex tapestry of sisterhood and provide insight about the deaths of the men that stood in their way. The Pliant Girls is heartbreaking and, at times, hilarious exploration of love, sexual politics, and the power of redemption.

2024 BFA Dance Showcase

Adapted from the medieval morality play Everyman, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s Everybody is a symbolic journey through life in which the title character, Everybody, searches for a companion—Somebody—who will accompany them to their appointment with Death. Representing the randomness of death, each of Somebodies is assigned by chance at each performance—resulting in many different combinations. Each of these actors must memorize the entire script and be prepared to play any role. This fresh take on a timeless tale playfully satirizes contemporary culture while reminding us that life is a gift.

Our annual production of Agbedidi celebrates the diaspora and fusion of African dance cultures and features both traditional African Dance and contemporary works. You won’t want to miss this dance spectacular—where diversity is celebrated, differing cultures and dance forms are brought together, and you are invited to get up out of your seats!

The Day The Music Came Back

This powerful drama tackles toxic masculinity and gun violence as Wendy and the other women take back their story. Blending dance and theatre, Dust plays like a musical score infused with poetry, giving voice to the unspeakable.

When the President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life, liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. 

Prepare to burst with laughter as you watch this hilariously absurd show featuring women who are messy, chaotic, crude, and morally ambiguous, yet also powerful and real.

A striking new ensemble drama based on the Jena Six; six Black students who were initially charged with attempted murder for a school fight after being provoked with nooses hanging from a tree on campus. This bold docudrama examines the miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crises in relations between men and women of all classes and, as a result, the shattering state of Black family life.

A young boy is born into a humble farming family in the Caribbean, but after his first taste of cold Coca-Cola, he dreams of a world beyond his family’s meager acre. Naively yearning to meet the President of America, Yemaya’s Belly follows his epic journey into manhood and materialism, from farm, to city, to a raft sailing to the New World.

Fall BFA Dance Showcase

Cabaret takes audiences deep into the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Club on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Weimar Germany. Led by the enigmatic and dazzling Emcee, Cabaret is an intoxicating theatrical experience that follows the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer, a writer from America, and the denizens of Berlin as they are caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. 

We are excited to introduce Spotlight on Cabaret: a benefit to support the School of Theatre + Dance, Saturday, October 22. This new event to replace Splendor will offer a pre-show reception to exclusively meet the director and performers, enjoy refreshments and libations, preferential seating, and the excitement of the live musical production of Cabaret!
