USF School of Music: A Symphony of Talent and Tradition

The USF College of Design, Art & Performance and The Florida Orchestra have formed a new partnership to elevate music education, inspire artistic expression and strengthen community engagement. As part of the collaboration, the USF Symphony Orchestra will work directly with internationally acclaimed conductors. TFO Resident Conductor Chelsea Gallo, serving as artist-in-residence at USF, provides students with professional-level ensemble experiences that will help shape them as musicians and prepare them for future success.

Arthur Greene returns to the Steinway Series for another thrilling performance featuring works by J. S. Bach, Schumann, Liszt, and Beethoven. About this program Mr. Greene writes: “I choose to play music that has the maximum emotional impact for me. I hope to communicate those feelings, and that world, to the audience. These pieces, even Bach (!), are direct expressions; as Beethoven wrote on his Missa Solemnis score, "From the heart, may it return to the heart!"

A magical afternoon with one of the world’s most celebrated piano duets, the Schiavo-Marchegiani Piano Duo, celebrating its 20 years on stage. The program includes works by Rossini, Schubert, Mozart, Dvorak, and Brahms.

Steinway Artist Ksenia Nosikova presents an exciting recital featuring Johannes Brahms’ monumental Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel as well as its inspiration – Handel’s Suite in B-flat major. The program also includes works by Muzio Clementi and Max Reger.

Born in Mumbai, India, international concert pianist, Fali Pavri takes us on a colorful musical voyage from India, through Bosnia-Herzegovina and on to the emotional tapestry of Chopin's 24 Preludes. Fali Pavri has performed with some of the world’s most eminent musicians including cellist, Mstislav Rostropovich, violinists Nicola Benedetti and Ilya Gringolts and singer Roderick Williams.

Join the USF Symphony Orchestra on November 17th at 2:00 PM in the USF Concert Hall for a fantastic journey through musical imagination. The concert opens with Josef Suk's colorful Scherzo fantastique, followed by Joaquín Turina's vibrant and rhythmically driven Danzas fantásticas. The program culminates in one of the most monumental works in the orchestral repertoire, Hector Berlioz's groundbreaking Symphonie fantastique, a thrilling that will leave audiences spellbound. This is a concert experience you won’t want to miss!

The USF Opera Workshop is excited to present an evening filled with classic opera scenes, timeless arias, and even a few beloved musical theatre selections. This diverse cast of talented singers will showcase challenging repertoire with engaging and imaginative staging. The program encompasses a range of narratives, including best friends reuniting, lovers bidding farewell, and a wedding party that goes hilariously awry. Audiences can look forward to works from renowned composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giacomo Puccini, Gaetano Donizetti, Richard Wagner, Georges Bizet, and more.

Tickets for the 2024-2025 Season are being offered free of charge and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The lobby will open 1 hour prior to the event, and the doors will open approximately 30 minutes before the performance. Please arrive ahead of time to ensure your ticket as seating is limited.

USF Gospel Choir

On Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 you are invited to experience a joint concert of USF’s vocal jazz ensemble “Blue Mood” and the USF Wind Ensemble in the beautiful USF Concert Hall. The concert is titled “Up, Up, and Away”, with many of the selections inspired by the art, grace, and majesty of flight. Of special note, we will perform the world premier of a work by USF Jazz professor, Ross Strauser, in which the two ensembles will perform jointly. We consider this to be a groundbreaking concert, and hope that you will come experience it with us.

USF Wind Ensemble & Blue Mood

On Thursday, November 7th, Jazz One (Jazz Ensemble I) will present a concert with our first Guest Artist of the Year, Jazz Drummer, Herlin Riley.  Mr. Riley, A new Orleans resident and  New Orleans native, has been the  Lincoln Center Orchestra  drummer in New York City for decades now. Touring, performing, and recording with this Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis for many years, In New Orleans and New York as well as around the world.  With USF’s Jazz One, he will perform the Music of Duke Ellington, Benny Golson, and Chuck Owen.  The Ellington/ Strayhorn compositions will come from some of the Suites, including “Such Sweet Thunder”, the “Far East Suite”,” New Orleans Suite” and “The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse ”.  These are some of his later works with Billy Strayhorn.  Ahead of their time, the music is swinging and still holds up without a doubt in today’s music world.  We will also pay a tribute to Benny Golson who just passed away  performing Chuck Owen’s “Along Came Benny’ along with a new composition by retired USF Jazz Professor and grammy nominated Chuck Owen, “And Your Point Is….”, with a second line groove.  A good time will be had by all!

Pianist Vedrana Subotic presents the Romantic piano era's biggest fireworks - the two epic sonatas by Franz Liszt. The grand musical arch of the B Minor and the phantasmagorical vision of Dante's Divine Comedy is musical story-telling at its best. Framed by the two Liszt masterpieces is a world premiere of two original arrangements of traditional Balkan melodies, reimagined for solo piano by Christopher O'Riley and Igor Iachimciuc.
