Lauren's senior recital will feature organ music by a variety of composers, including J.S. Bach, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Jean Langlais. In addition to playing solo organ works, she will collaborate with friends to perform an organ concerto with chamber orchestra by George Frideric Handel and a trumpet voluntary by John Stanley. 

Senior Recital: Lauren Park, organ

Jorge Padilla '24 will showcase the works of Romantic composers in a voice recital, spanning 4 different languages (English, German, French, and Italian). The first half of Jorge's recital will open with a robust oratorio from Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, followed by three sets of German, French, and Italian pieces composed by Franz Schubert, Reynaldo Hahn, and Paolo Tosti, respectively. For the second half, Jorge will perform the full cycle of Ralph Vaughan Williams' illustrative Songs of Travel.

The Elizabeth Pollard Fetter Chamber Music Program has been an integral part of the Swarthmore College performance program for four decades. It began in 1975 as the ""Pollard Scholarship Funds,"" with an initial contribution from Elizabeth Pollard Fetter '25 in memory of her mother, Emilie Garrett Pollard '93. With the passing of Elizabeth Pollard Fetter in 1977, husband Frank Whitson Fetter '20 stepped forward to endow the Elizabeth Pollard Fetter String Quartet Scholarships at Swarthmore College. Dozens of student musicians were subsequently supported in their desire to explore the string quartet repertoire.

Baritone Randall Scarlata has been praised by the New York Times as "an intelligent and communicative singer" with a "compelling desire to bring texts to life." He has also been acclaimed for his "extraordinary vocal range and colour palette" and "ability to traverse so many different singing styles" (MusicWeb International). The Daily Telegraph (London) adds "Randall Scarlata sings with the assurance of one with nothing to prove."

Seraph Brass was founded by trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden with the mission of elevating and showcasing the excellence of female brass players and highlighting musicians from marginalized groups both in personnel and in programming. Winners of the American Prize in Chamber Music, the group has been praised for their “beautiful sounds" (American Record Guide), "fine playing” (Gramophone), and “staggeringly high caliber of performance” (Textura). Now in its ninth touring season, Seraph primarily performs as a quintet, with a dynamic roster drawing from America’s top brass musicians.

Swarthmore College Jazz Ensemble

Gamelan Semara Santi is a classical percussion orchestra from Bali, Indonesia, consisting of tuned gongs, bronze-keyed xylophones, drums, and bamboo flutes. Approximately 20 to 25 musicians participate, mostly Swarthmore students, plus a few additional community members. We perform classical and modern compositions from Bali - some instrumental, some with dance.

Equally adept as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician, Cyrus Beroukhim has appeared at major venues including the Theaterplatz and Paul Klee Zentrum in Bern, Novell Hall in Taipei, Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, Kravis Center in Palm Beach, The Barns at Wolf Trap in Washington, DC, Qualcomm Hall in San Diego, Ravinia Festival in Chicago, and various halls throughout Germany, Luxembourg, Japan, and Israel. His performances of Bach and Vivaldi Concerti with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields were heralded as “flawless and sensitive” by the Zeitung im Espace Mittelland (Switzerland). He has served as both principal second violin and principal viola of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, where he has also performed as soloist in the productions of Stravinsky Violin Concerto and Concerto Barocco. His performance of Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso earned him the distinction of “crème de la crème” on National Public Radio’s Performance Today. He was appointed as concertmaster of the American Symphony Orchestra in 2019 and has appeared as guest concertmaster with the American Ballet Theatre, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Gotham Chamber Opera.

Finn's recital will be a fun blend of classical and jazz trumpet music! The classical portion will feature works by J.B Arban and Franz Joseph Haydn. After that, he will play a collection of modern and not-so-modern jazz tunes by a variety of artists with a Swarthmore jazz combo.

Tri-Co Asian American Studies Program and Swarthmore College Departments of Music and Dance present "Finding Her Beat" on Friday, March 22nd.  The event begins in Troy Dance Studio with a taiko performance at 6pm.  The event will continue upstairs in the LPAC Cinema with a screening of the film "Finding Her Beat" and Q&A.

Praised as “passionate and elegant” by The New York Times, cellist Amy Sue Barston has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on stages all over the world, including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Ravinia, Bargemusic, Caramoor, Haan Hall (Jerusalem), The Banff Centre (Canada), The International Musicians Seminar (England), The Power House (Australia), and Chicago’s Symphony Center.
