==Bargemusic== '''Bargemusic''' is a renowned chamber music venue uniquely situated on a floating barge at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. Since its establishment in 1977, it has provided audiences with the opportunity to experience live music against the picturesque backdrop of the East River and the Manhattan skyline. Bargemusic presents over 200 chamber music concerts annually, offering performances by both established and emerging artists. ===Mission=== The mission of Bargemusic is to enrich the cultural life of New York City by providing frequent, year-round chamber music performances. The organization is dedicated to presenting chamber music as it was intended to be heard—in an intimate setting. In an effort to make these performances accessible to a broad audience, Bargemusic offers free tickets to various groups and hosts a family-friendly Admission Free Concert on Saturday afternoons. ===Artistic Direction=== The artistic vision of Bargemusic is shaped by its Artistic Director, Mark Peskanov, an American virtuoso violinist of Odessa origin. Peskanov's early talent was nurtured at the Stolyarsky school, and after emigrating to the United States at fifteen, he continued his studies at the Aspen Music Festival and the Juilliard School. His exceptional musicianship has earned him recognition and awards, including the Avery Fischer Career Grant and the Isaac Stern Award from Carnegie Hall. Since 2005, Peskanov has served as the president and artistic/executive director of Bargemusic, curating a diverse range of chamber music concerts and fostering the venue's role as a cornerstone of New York City's cultural scene. ===History=== Bargemusic was founded by Olga Bloom, a former violinist and violist, who at the age of 57 decided to transform a 100-foot steel barge, previously used to deliver coffee for the Erie Lackawanna railroad, into a concert hall. The barge, built in 1899, was repurposed and painted white, with its history symbolized by the "EL 375" mark on its steel deck. Under Bloom's vision, the barge was converted into a space where the "cargo" is now beautiful music, attracting audiences and performers from around the globe. ===Location and Contact Information=== Bargemusic is moored at the Fulton Ferry Landing under the Brooklyn Bridge, with its GPS address listed as 1 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. The unique charm of Bargemusic continues to captivate music lovers, offering a singular experience where the intimacy of chamber music and the grandeur of New York City's skyline converge. ==External Links== * [http://www.bargemusic.org Official website of Bargemusic]
