Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan is renowned as Asia's first contemporary dance company, founded in 1973 by choreographer Lin Hwai-min. The company's name, 'Cloud Gate,' refers to an ancient Chinese dance dating back over 5,000 years. Lin Hwai-min, a major figure in contemporary dance, infused the company with a unique blend of traditional Chinese arts—such as tai chi and meditation—with contemporary Western dance techniques.
