One of the savviest composers of the Baroque, Telemann disseminated his cosmopolitan music through Der getreue Music-Meister, which included pieces for nearly every instrument of the time. With its solo sonatas, chamber works, and programmatic pieces (such as a suite depicting the recently published — and wildly popular — Gulliver’s Travels), this innovative collection truly offers something for everyone. Repast presents a kaleidoscopic array of works, including a grand Ouverture-Suite, intimate sonatas and chamber music, and Heldenmusik, a portrayal of the heroic temperaments.

A beloved hobby, birding offers a connection to nature, a sense of adventure, and the thrill of discovery. Baroque composers were just as roused by birds as birders are today, incorporating into their music the songs of nightingales, cuckoos, and the “dodo of love”. This program features works by Biber, Rameau, Handel, and Couperin paired with poetry recited by singer/songwriter Erin Hall, whose album Great Blue was inspired by encounters with a majestic Great Blue Heron in Central Park.

Purcell lived only to the age of 36, but the creative output of his short life was breathtaking. Repast showcases Purcell’s inimitable style with songs, fantasies, keyboard works, and the famous Chaconne. Soprano Sonya Headlam is celebrated for her magnetic vocal expression, and the English texts allow audience members to appreciate the beauty of Purcell’s poetic settings.
