Durham Symphony Orchestra

The Durham Symphony Orchestra (DSO), founded in 1976, began as an all-volunteer community orchestra offering free concerts. It was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1977. Over the years, the DSO has evolved into a semi-professional orchestra, comprising both volunteers and classically trained professionals. The symphony is dedicated to producing high-quality orchestral concerts and educational programs that nurture musical talent and appreciation, reflecting a commitment to American and regional composers while presenting classical repertoire in a contemporary light. The DSO aims to inspire, educate, and celebrate the relevance and joy of symphonic music, enhancing Durham's cultural heritage. The organization honors its Founding Conductor, Vincent Simonetti, and Conductor Emeritus, Alan Neilson.
