The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is a community orchestra based in Bloomington, Minnesota, near the Twin Cities. Celebrating over 60 years of musical excellence, the BSO is recognized as one of the premier community orchestras in the region. The orchestra's mission is to unite music enthusiasts and talented musicians to deliver inspirational orchestral performances, with a strong emphasis on community engagement as a foundational pillar. Under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Manny Laureano, the BSO consists of approximately 75 volunteer musicians. These individuals come from diverse backgrounds, with many being professional musicians and educators, while others pursue different careers. The dedication of its members, some of whom have been with the orchestra for over two decades, speaks volumes about the organization's commitment to its mission and the quality of its musical endeavors. The BSO's concert season typically spans from October to April or May, featuring four ticketed concerts that showcase a wide range of classical music repertoire. Additionally, the orchestra performs free outdoor concerts in the summer and collaborates with Bloomington Public School Orchestras for educational concerts. Notable concert series include "Music in 3D," which has featured works by Mahler and Beethoven, among others. Rehearsals for the BSO take place on Sunday evenings at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bloomington, beginning from the last Sunday in August through the end of the concert season.
