Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5—the first symphony ever conducted by Maestro Yasuda—is one of the most iconic works in classical music, its famous four-note opening beginning the journey from struggle to triumph. Also featured is cellist Nathaniel Pierce in Tchaikovsky’s elegant Variations on a Rococo Theme and Kernis’ lyrical Air for Cello and Orchestra.

American Tapestry – Relaxed Concert

The Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra concludes the season with one of the most famous and performed symphonies of all time, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony “Ode to Joy”, with Chippewa Valley Festival Choir and a quartet of guest soloists: Emily Sternfeld-Dunn (soprano), Christine Amon (alto), Mark Mowry (tenor), and Kenneth J. Pereira (bass). First to incorporate a chorus, this groundbreaking symphony is an epic journey of human experience from individual struggle to universal exultation.

Then visit the far northern shores with Rautavaara’s Concerto for Birds and Orchestra, featuring recorded birdsong from Finland and the Arctic Circle. Finally, hear Sibelius’ reverence for nature’s power in his breathtaking Symphony No. 7.

The Wonder of Nature

Celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Maestro Nobuyoshi Yasuda in his final concert with CVSO. The program reflects his journey, from Sibelius’ Finlandia, the first piece he ever conducted, to selections from Mahler’s Symphony No. 9, known as his “Farewell Symphony”. The evening also features Rhapsody for Orchestra by Japanese composer Yuzo Toyama, honoring Nobu’s roots as he prepares to return to his native Japan.
