The Coachella Valley Symphony is a distinguished ensemble based in the desert region of Southern California. Established in 1993 by Jeannette Banoczi, the symphony was created out of her fervent desire to foster a passion for music within the community, recognizing the limited opportunities available in the area at the time. The inaugural conductor, Thomas Mancini, laid the groundwork for the symphony's future, which was further developed under the leadership of Maestro Christian Chalifour from 1995 to 2010. As the symphony embarked on its 23rd season, it welcomed John Mario as its new conductor, marking a new chapter in its evolution. The orchestra has since expanded, incorporating not only local desert residents but also guest musicians, out-of-state visitors known as "snowbirds," and artists from across Southern California. The ensemble, now boasting a 50-piece orchestra, offers a rich repertoire that spans a wide range of musical genres, from classical masterpieces to contemporary popular music. The Coachella Valley Symphony has made significant strides in music education and community engagement. It has grown its youth and scholarship programs and introduced new sponsorship opportunities, reflecting its commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians. The symphony's dedication to providing community musicians with a platform to showcase their talents is matched by its efforts to offer youth individual and group scholarships, ensuring that the joy and appreciation of music are accessible to all. With a mission to engage, educate, and foster a lifelong love of music among audiences, the Coachella Valley Symphony presents a diverse array of concerts that resonate with the community. Events such as the "Halloween Spooktacular," "Best of Stage and Screen," and "Disney Around the World" are testament to the symphony's versatile and inclusive approach to programming.
