### Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra (GPO) The Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra (GPO) is a distinguished regional professional orchestra that prides itself on a legacy of over a century of musical excellence. This remarkable longevity places the GPO among a select group of orchestras in the United States that have sustained operations for such an extended period, a feat more commonly associated with much larger cities. The GPO's history reflects the cultural aspirations of the early settlers in the region, a testament to the enduring value and influence of orchestral music in the community. The GPO is renowned for its high standards of performance and professionalism, attracting musicians from across Colorado and Southern Wyoming. Each member of the orchestra is selected through a rigorous audition process, ensuring that only the most skilled performers join the ranks. The orchestra boasts over 70 members who possess a master's degree or higher, highlighting the exceptional level of talent and dedication within the ensemble. These musicians have built successful careers, not only with the GPO but also with other prominent professional orchestras throughout the Front Range and beyond. In addition to its regular season performances, the GPO is committed to educational outreach and fostering the next generation of musicians through initiatives like the Greeley Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (GPYO). The GPYO was established in 1947 and relaunched in 2021 through a collaboration with the University of Northern Colorado’s School of Music and local orchestra educators. Supported by the Littler Youth Fund grant from the Weld Community Foundation, the GPYO aims to provide a high-quality orchestral experience for school-age musicians in northern Colorado. The mission of the GPYO is to showcase the region's most accomplished young musicians and to immerse students and parents in the world of symphonic music. The program emphasizes the development of musicianship, professional etiquette, rehearsal techniques, and the cultivation of professional relationships, all while holding students to the highest musical standards. The GPO's educational efforts extend to various age groups, offering programs and resources for elementary, middle, and high school students. These initiatives are designed to deepen the understanding and appreciation of orchestral music among young people and to encourage their participation in the arts. The GPO's leadership includes a dedicated conductor and a Composer in Residence, both of whom contribute to the artistic vision and direction of the orchestra. The organization is supported by a committed staff and board of directors, as well as a community of volunteers and donors who contribute to the GPO's success through various support mechanisms, including donations, musician adoption programs, advertising, and sponsorships.
