Clinton Symphony Orchestra

Clinton, IA, United States

The Clinton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is a distinguished musical institution that has been enriching the cultural landscape of Clinton, Iowa, and its surrounding areas since its inception in 1954. Established by a group of visionary community leaders, the CSO has reached its 68th year of operation, attracting patrons from Eastern Iowa and Northwest Illinois, including a broad geographic area. The orchestra has flourished under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Brian Dollinger, who has been instrumental in expanding the CSO's repertoire and performances. Dollinger's tenure has seen the orchestra collaborate with notable soloists from the local communities and educational institutions. His leadership has been characterized by his charisma, energy, technical clarity, and deep musical passion, which have been pivotal in inspiring both the musicians of the CSO and its audience. Maestro Dollinger's extensive experience includes his re-appointment in 2021 as Artistic Director & Conductor for the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra in Hawaii, as well as his roles as Music Director for the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra and the West Hawaii Dance Theatre. The 2021-22 season marked his 17th season with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra and his 14th with the Clinton Symphony Orchestra. Dollinger's conducting career is notable for his ability to engage with orchestras and audiences alike, creating an inviting and enriching atmosphere at every rehearsal and performance. His conducting portfolio includes work with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, Idaho Falls Symphony Orchestra, and Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Beyond his musical accomplishments, Dollinger is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he participated in combat and support operations during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, as well as humanitarian missions in Central America. The CSO is governed by an active Board of Directors, with Stuart Lind serving as President, Lynn McGraw as Vice President, Karl Wolf as Secretary, and Richard Sweet as Treasurer. The board is supported by a dedicated group of individuals, and the organization actively seeks new members to join its Director and Friends of the Symphony Support Boards. The orchestra performs in various venues across the region, including the Vernon Cook Theater at Clinton High School, Sterling High School, Morrison High School, Zion Lutheran Church, and the Riverview Park Bandshell. The CSO's season typically features a diverse range of concerts, from classical masterworks to holiday favorites and pops, ensuring that there is something for every music lover in the community. The Clinton Symphony Orchestra remains committed to its mission of bringing great music to the region and fostering a love for the arts within the community. With a proud history and a bright future, the CSO continues to be a vital part of the cultural fabric of Eastern Iowa and Northwest Illinois.
