Mill Mountain Theatre

Mill Mountain Theatre (MMT) is a professional regional theatre located in Roanoke, Virginia, that has been a cornerstone of the performing arts community in Southwest Virginia for over half a century. With a mission to inspire, entertain, enrich, educate, and challenge audiences, MMT is dedicated to producing high-quality theatrical productions and offering educational opportunities through conservatory classes and community engagement programs. Established in 1964 by two New York producers, Mill Mountain Theatre began as a summer stock theatre at a vacant resort inn on the highest point in Roanoke, which led to its namesake. The original playhouse, known as Mill Mountain Playhouse, evolved into a non-profit, non-Equity resident stock theatre. In 1976, after the original playhouse was destroyed by fire, the company relocated to the Grandin Theatre, an old movie house. The opening of Center in the Square in 1983 marked a new era for the theatre, which included a year-round class schedule and a rebranding as Mill Mountain Theatre. This move played a significant role in the cultural renaissance of downtown Roanoke. Throughout its history, Mill Mountain Theatre has been recognized for its contributions to the arts, presenting world premieres, dramatic classics, full-scale musicals, and educational programming for all ages on its two stages in Roanoke, as well as touring productions throughout Virginia. The theatre has also been a platform for new works, including the national hit "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" and the American premiere of "Children of Eden."
