Musyca Children’s Choir

Los Angeles, CA, United States

MUSYCA Children's Choir, also known as Musical Youth of California, is a prominent choral music education program for children and youth. Founded in 2010, MUSYCA has established itself as California's leading performing arts organization for young individuals. With a mission to provide the highest quality of music education to children and youth of all religious, ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds, MUSYCA emphasizes the study and performance of outstanding choral repertoire. Based in the San Fernando Valley and serving Los Angeles County and neighboring cities, MUSYCA operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It has garnered support from various institutions, including the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, and several foundations and individual patrons. Under the guidance of an exceptional faculty, MUSYCA offers a multi-level, sequential choral program that caters to young people aged 4 to 18. The organization is committed to fostering a diverse community of singers who are built on respect and love for music, aiming for artistic excellence. MUSYCA's name, pronounced "MUSIC-ah," is an acronym that reflects its focus on the musical development of youth in California. The choir has several sequential levels, including Kinderchoir (ages 4-6), Junior Chorus (ages 7-10), Melody Choir (ages 10-13), Harmony Ensemble (ages 13-18), Young Men’s Chorus (ages 14-18), Chamber Singers (SATB, ages 16-25), and an intergenerational Community Chorale for adult singers. Additionally, MUSYCA offers individual voice instruction and private instrumental music lessons, covering instruments such as piano, violin, drums, guitar, ukulele, and flute. MUSYCA's curriculum is deeply rooted in classical music, with students receiving professional training in vocal production, performance techniques, music theory, aural perception, and sight-singing. The choir's diverse repertoire spans classical music, contemporary choral works, art songs, folk songs, popular music, and jazz, specializing in the bel canto vocal style. Faculty members, many holding Doctoral degrees in music performance and education, are highly qualified and dedicated to teaching. The organization also runs the MUSYCA Recording Artists Workshop, providing hands-on classes that impart essential skills for success in the recording studio. MUSYCA's singers have collaborated with renowned composers and recording artists, contributing to soundtracks for films, TV shows, video games, and commercials. MUSYCA's public performances are numerous and varied, with appearances at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, and the White House. The choir also engages in community service, performing at charitable events and collaborating with other artists, choirs, and orchestras. In addition to local and national performances, MUSYCA offers touring opportunities, with past international tours to destinations like Greece, Spain, Japan, and France, and domestic tours to New York and Washington DC. The choir plans to tour the United Kingdom in the summer of 2024. MUSYCA's Festival of the Arts is an annual event that celebrates creativity and talent, inviting young visual artists and musicians to compete and showcase their skills. The organization also addresses frequently asked questions on its website, including details on participation costs and time commitments. MUSYCA Children's Choir is a testament to the transformative power of music education, providing a platform for young singers to "Sing Well & Be Heard," as encapsulated in their motto.
