Join us for a special Pride Month celebration at the Queer Coffee Social, happening on Saturday, June 8th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Englert Lounge. This event is a fantastic opportunity for queer individuals to connect with others in the community in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Admission is free, but please RSVP to ensure your spot.

The Queer Coffee Social is proudly partnered with Iowa City Pride, Pride Alliance Center, LGBTQ Iowa Archives & Library, LGBTQ Council, and fix Coffee, ensuring a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. Attendees can enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries while supplies last, fostering a relaxed and friendly setting for all.

In addition to socializing, participants will have the chance to engage in creative activities. We will provide materials for everyone to create posters and signs for the upcoming Iowa City Pride parade. There's also an opportunity to contribute to a community banner, which will be prominently featured during the Pride Parade. This banner is a canvas for your expressions of what pride means to you, whether through art, messages, or signatures.

Northside Saturday Nights: Ace Jones

Born of the 2010’s folk boom and now comfortably stationed in their rock and roll era, The Crane Wives epitomize the evolving sound of the indie genre. Having performed hundreds of shows on stages across the country, they gravitate toward high-energy melodies, featuring the kinetic percussion of Dan Rickabus, the silky, driving bass lines of Ben Zito and playful guitar leads from front women Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury. Counterbalancing their lively stage presence, their lyrics extol the shadow side of the human condition, delving into mythology and themes of darkness and inner conflict. The band softens the blows of their emotional candor with soulful three-part vocal harmonies, like a 21st century Cerberus, the hound of Hades reimagined as an emotional support animal. To date, they have released five full length albums, including their 2020 live album, “Here I Am”.

Joe Pera is a standup comedian, writer, and filmmaker from Buffalo, NY now living in New York, NY. Pera is best known for his Adult Swim series, “Joe Pera Talks With You,” which The LA Times refers to as ‘TV’s quietest, most artful comedy’. He has performed his subdued standup on Conan, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Comedy Central. After his animated special “Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep” (which many have found to work), he followed up with other projects for Adult Swim including “Joe Pera Helps You Find The Perfect Christmas Tree” and “Relaxing Old Footage with Joe Pera.”  Through his production company, Chestnut Walnut, Pera has also directed a number of film and tv projects including Conner O'Malley's “Truthhunters” pilot for Comedy Central. Pera’s first book ‘A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping Or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape’ is out now from Macmillan publishing, and on the USA TODAY best seller list. “Joe Pera Talks With You” is now available to stream on Max, and Pera can be seen appearing on season 5 of “Search Party.” Pera also voiced the role of “Fern” in Peter Sohn’s Disney Pixar box office smash animated feature film “Elemental.” Pera's new sleep podcast “Drifting Off with Joe Pera,” a collaboration with Composer Ryan Dann, can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Patreon. New episodes release on the first Sunday of each month. On October 6th,  Joe released his independently financed and produced comedy special, “Joe Pera: Slow and Steady,” exclusively on his own YouTube channel.
