Les Arts Florissants

Les Arts Florissants is a renowned French ensemble specializing in baroque music, particularly from the French and Italian repertoires. Founded in 1979 by American-born conductor William Christie, the group was named after the opera 'Les Arts Florissants' by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, a relatively lesser-known composer at the time of the ensemble's inception. Over the years, Les Arts Florissants has gained international acclaim for its historically informed performances and recordings. The ensemble has been instrumental in reviving interest in 17th and 18th-century music, bringing forgotten works to modern audiences. Notable for their operatic and choral productions, they have collaborated with prominent venues and festivals around the world. Their recordings have garnered numerous awards, reflecting their artistic excellence. The ensemble is based in France and continues to be a pivotal force in the performance of early music, with stewardship now also involving Paul Agnew, a frequent collaborator and revered tenor.
