In "for colored girls..." a community of women come together to share stories of joy, loss, pain, struggle, defiance, and vulnerability through text, dance, song, and sound. They form a sisterhood and through lived experiences and/or heightened empathic abilities, they are able to triumphantly hold space for themselves and each other. They are a team of storytellers with a mission; to create a space of comfort and healing where they have immediate access to their love, laughter, and pain. Individually, they have agency but together they hold the universe of this play. "For colored girls..." is  a choreopoem- where text and movement work in tandem to drive the storytelling. One does not exist without the other.

The Cleveland Orchestra performs a pair of Russian symphonic masterpieces, starting with the folkloric magic of Stravinsky’s Pétrouchka. The whimsical piece stands in great tonal contrast to Tchaikovsky’s final composition, Symphony No. 6. Though immortalized in the West with its French translation, “Pathétique,” Tchaikovsky’s chosen subtitle, “Pateticheskaya,” announces it as something closer in meaning to “Passionate Symphony.” He called it both the “most sincere” and “best thing I ever composed.”

The illustrious Cleveland Orchestra sets the stage for a dramatic performance with Haydn’s turbulent Symphony No. 52 before presenting the anticipated Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage debut of soprano Asmik Grigorian—a recent worldwide “sensation” (BBC Music Magazine) at leading opera houses such as the Vienna State Opera and Salzburg Festival. Music Director Franz Welser-Möst calls Grigorian “the complete package” (The New York Times), and indeed, their recent collaborations on major international stages have earned overwhelming levels of excitement from audiences and critics alike.
