Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences, established in 1976, serves as a cultural hub for a community of approximately 340,000 people in the upper Texas Gulf Coast. The Center was founded through the efforts of local industrial and civic leaders and is owned and operated by the Brazosport Fine Arts Council, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It provides performance and exhibit space for its permanent residents, including the Brazosport Art League, Brazosport Museum of Natural Science, BASF Planetarium, Brazosport Center Stages community theater, and Brazosport Symphony Orchestra. The Center operates with a modest staff and relies heavily on volunteers who contribute as actors, directors, painters, teachers, naturalists, astronomers, and archaeologists. Its mission is to inspire the Brazoria County community and visitors through high-quality art, science, theater, and music programs, fostering cultural and educational experiences. The Center is a testament to community collaboration, encouraging creativity and discovery among its visitors and volunteers.
