Founded in 1933, the York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) has been a cornerstone of cultural and musical excellence in its community, performing continuously through significant historical events such as the Great Depression and World War II. The organization consists of 76 professional instrumentalists and a chorus of 100 volunteer vocalists, established in the 1950s. The YSO offers a rich array of performances each season, including six Classical Series concerts, three Pops Series concerts, and two Young Person's Concerts, showcasing a wide repertoire of classical and contemporary music. Beyond entertainment, the YSO is dedicated to music education, reaching over 15,000 students in more than 40 schools annually. With a mission focused on excellence, diversity, and educational outreach, the YSO continues to inspire and engage audiences of all ages while fostering a vibrant cultural scene in its region.
