Written in 1989 by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, "The Baltimore Waltz" is the irreverent, passionate, and flamboyant expression of a sister’s grief. Two years before Vogel’s brother Carl passed away from AIDS-related complications, he asked her on a tour of Europe. They never got the chance to take that trip. The play confronts what could have been in the form of an imaginative one-act that is equal parts melodrama and satire.

The Conservatory Convocation Series features outstanding students in performances and presentations.

This performance will feature BW Music Composition majors premiering their original works.

Comprised of a collage of interrelated scenes, the action begins with a reunion, six years after graduation, of five close friends and classmates at Mount Holyoke College.

They compare notes on their activities since leaving school and then, in a series of flashbacks, we see them in their college days and learn of the events, some funny, some touching, some bitingly cynical, that helped to shape them.

The BW percussion ensemble, directed by Josh Ryan, will present contemporary and engaging works for a variety of percussion instruments. Music for drums, marimbas, and a variety of other instruments will be featured.

Join us as junior vocalists compete for the Mel and Jena Hakola Prize for Academic and Vocal Excellence, an endowed BW scholarship. The Prize is awarded by outside judges of the competition to a Conservatory of Music vocal major who demonstrates excellence and promise.

In 1895, Oscar Wilde, one of history's most celebrated playwrights and author of "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "The Picture of Dorian Gray," seemed invincible. Yet, within three months, he was engulfed in scandal and disgrace after suing the Marquess of Queensberry, the father of his lover Alfred Douglas, for libel. Wilde soon found his art under ruthless scrutiny, his character on trial and his freedom threatened by state charges of gross indecency with male persons.

One of the most popular dark comedies in the English language, the play reimagines the story of Shakespeare's "Hamlet," only this time Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the leads while Hamlet is a minor character. Our heroes are nevertheless trapped in "Hamlet," and with witty dialogue and clever wordplay, they struggle to figure out what they are supposed to be doing and what might be their fate.

"Star Machine" is a comedic romp through the triumphs and rock-bottoms of one of the most ridiculous arenas of show biz.

Testing Ground Spring Edition

William Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" is widely considered to be a "dark" comedy. It follows a young Novemberitiate in Vienna, whose brother is the victim of an unexpected crackdown on an old and largely ignored law. As she attempts to beg for his life, she discovers a judicial system that has more to do with vengeance than justice. The play examines sexual politics through a particularly gendered lens and asks: When faced with corruption of power, how do we fix broken systems? This play contains mature themes. Parental discretion is advised.
