Vineyard Theatre

New York City, NY, United States

Vineyard Theatre is an Off-Broadway theatre company founded in 1982, originally located on East 26th Street, New York City. Initially a multi-art chamber theatre featuring theatre, opera, jazz, and children’s programming, it shifted focus exclusively to theatre in 1989 when it moved to Union Square. The company is renowned for its commitment to developing and producing innovative new plays and musicals, fostering a community of daring theatre makers and audiences. Under the artistic leadership of Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern, Vineyard Theatre has premiered numerous acclaimed works, many of which have transferred to Broadway, including "Avenue Q," "Indecent," and "Dana H." The theatre's dedication to artistic development has launched the careers of notable artists like Tarell Alvin McCraney and Rajiv Joseph. Vineyard Theatre's contributions to the arts have been recognized with multiple awards, including Tony Awards and Pulitzer Prizes. The organization also emphasizes education and community initiatives, serving over 700 NYC public high school students annually and supporting underrepresented voices in the arts.
