FRIGID New York is an independent, non-profit theater company based in the East Village of New York City, operating primarily out of UNDER St Marks Theater. Founded in 1998 as Horse Trade, the organization aims to provide a platform for both emerging and established artists to create and produce original work. It offers monthly programming, mainstage productions, an artist residency, and eight annual theater festivals. The Resident Program, established in 1999, supports Indie Theater Artists with rehearsal and performance space, as well as consulting and marketing assistance. In 2006, FRIGID Festival, New York City's first winter Fringe festival, was launched, allowing artists to keep 100% of their earnings. Over the years, FRIGID has expanded its festival offerings to include the Gotham Storytelling Festival, The Fire This Time Festival, EstroGenius, Queerly, The Little Shakespeare Festival, and Days of the Dead. Celebrating its 25th season in 2022-2023, FRIGID continues to welcome over 16,000 audience members annually and supports hundreds of artists.
