A Melodic Year: Leeds Conservatoire Celebrates 60 Years of Musical Excellence

London-based duo, Flutes & Frets present intimate, magnetic performances that exploit the fragility and versatility of their ensemble. Known for their onstage chemistry and interaction, they cultivate a special sound-world and in this programme take audiences on a journey through pieces inspired by jazz, dance, Spain, and South America.

In this fast-paced farce by Richard Bean, based on Goldoni’s classic The Servant of Two Masters, out-of-work musician Francis Henshall finds himself juggling two jobs—and two bosses who must never meet.

One Man, Two Guvnors

 The Chevalier will tell his story – one of brilliance, revolution and then erasure. Composed and directed by jazz pianist Pete Letanka with Bologne’s music at its heart, this contemporary song cycle introduces you to Bologne’s story, from his Caribbean childhood to revolutionary 18th century France. Featuring new music created by young people in Leeds with Pete Letanka, you’ll be transported through the sounds of classical, jazz and calypso to the contemporary sound of Leeds.

New Connections: The Chevalier

In demand since its formation in 2017, the Victoria String Quartet has performed for chamber music societies and festivals throughout the UK and has been hailed as an ensemble ‘brim full with pedigree and wide experience’.

Echoing Route/Root’s themes of memory, migration and the tension between vulnerability and grandeur, this all-20th-century programme for two pianos balances intimacy and power. Francis Poulenc’s Elégie is brief but poignant, while his Sonata for piano four hands is full of quirky charm.

Loud & Live is an end-of-year concert from LC Pop Choir, bringing together much-loved audience favourites alongside brand-new songs, all delivered with the choir’s signature energy and contemporary edge. Expect a mix of pop, rock, and gospel from across the ages — a feel-good celebration of live music with something for everyone. Big sounds, bold harmonies, and infectious rhythms combine with collaborations featuring special guest performers, making this a night designed to uplift, energise, and entertain from start to finish.

In 2022 Jonathan was both a prize-winner at the Young Classical Artists Trust and Concert Artists Guild joint International Auditions held at Wigmore Hall, and also nominated as a 2022 Classic FM ‘Rising Star’. Clara Schumann’s songs express contrasting themes of love and longing; intimacy and loss; lightness and darkness. The lyrical melodies translate beautifully to the expressive tones of the clarinet.

Winner of Third Prize and the Roslyn Lyons Bronze Medal at the 2024 Leeds International Piano Competition, Khanh Nhi Luong captivated audiences with her profoundly musical performances of a wide range of repertoire, including Ludwig van Beethoven, Henri Dutilleux and Gabriel Fauré, culminating in a brilliant performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s third piano concerto. To close the 2025/26 International Piano Series, she performs music by Joseph Haydn, Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert, plus the rarely heard second piano sonata by Polish composer, Grażyna Bacewicz.

Set in 1960s Dublin, A Man of No Importance follows Alfie Byrne, a bus conductor with a passion for poetry, theatre, and keeping secrets. When he sets out to stage Oscar Wilde’s Salome in a conservative church hall, long-buried truths begin to surface.

She brings an exciting and eclectic programme of Claude Debussy, Ludwig van Beethoven and American composers Florence Price and William Grant Still, ending with Frédéric Chopin’s poetic third and fourth Ballades.

Set in the stunning Brodrick Hall as part of the Conservatoire’s collaborative exhibition with Leeds Museums, Music Leeds Us, this is a joyful, inclusive event not to be missed. No previous musical experience or music-reading skills required — just a love of music and singing.

LC Pop Choir: Step Into Song

Hailed as “Australia’s most exciting young cellist” by Limelight magazine, Switzerland-based Australian musician James Morley works largely as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a specialist in contemporary music performance and demonstrates that here, anchored by  bastions of the Baroque era Colombi and Biber.

In her solo career she has performed regularly across the UK and internationally. In addition to her solo career, Ruifan is a passionate collaborative pianist. Since 2022, she has held an official position at Royal Holloway, University of London, working closely with students in performance.

Welcome to Warsaw - a city teeming with secrets and whispers of mythical creatures you wouldn’t dare to dream of. Immerse yourself in the story of brave Magda, who embarks on a quest to save her little brother from the claws of a terrifying monster. Narrated by the ever-curious Rat Squad, this tale will have you in stitches.

I Who Have Never Known Men

Buenos Aires. The future, but only just. Marcos, a grieving father with an estranged wife, runs a meat-processing plant. His world looks a lot like ours, with one glaring difference. A 'virus' has infected all animals, rendering them inedible and toxic to humans. In response, governments instigate 'The Transition' - the legalisation of cannibalism. Marcos works in a plant that prepares human meat for consumption to fund his senile father's care, and is gifted a female to butcher or raise.

Concocting a plan to kidnap and turn the tables on their despicable supervisor, will the ladies manage to reform their office - or will events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit? Inspired by the iconic 80's film and brought to you by Dolly herself, this hilarious new production is about teaming up, standing up and taking care of business!

Our search for identity, for who we are, what we are, our desire to communicate, our fear of rejection, our need for acceptance, to be understood… 

These issues preoccupy us today as they did the poets of the late 18th century and the composers of the 19th century. 

Soul searching is neither, age, gender or culture specific. We find examples in all art forms and across the ages. 

However, one might say that these preoccupations are the domain of youth, who with their courage and unfettered curiosity, dare to ask questions which many of us as adults have long buried under our daily routines. 

Opera, the language of emotional expression is the ideal place to explore these feelings. 

And if “opera” is an emotional outpouring, then of course so is the Lieder form, combining powerful poetry with wonderful music.

Eboracum Baroque performs one of the most famous pieces of baroque music ever written in the 18th century arrangement for recorder, harpsichord and cello, an arrangement which Vivaldi knew and supported. It is truly virtuosic and at times features two recorders being played at once!  The music takes the listener on a journey through the four seasons from the singing of birds in Spring, a fierce thunderstorm in Summer, celebrating the harvest festival in Autumn and trembling in the icy cold of Winter.
