Celebrate the start of our new season with the vibrant spirit of American music! Be captivated by Wynton Marsalis’ Violin Concerto in D Major, performed by the talented violinist Hannah Ji. This dynamic work, inspired by the travels of renowned violinist and educator Nicola Benedetti, unfolds in four movements — each revealing a different facet of her dream, brought to life through Marsalis’ dazzling, storytelling-inspired composition.

Celebrate the music of the United States and Spain with works by United States composer Copland and Spanish composer Rodrigo. Come explore the vibrant landscape of Spain as world-renowned guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas shares his unbridled passion for his homeland in Rodrigo’s      Fantasía para un Gentilhombre. The journey concludes with Copland’s Third Symphony, offering an emotional journey from the uneasy tranquility of the opening movement to the heroic optimism of the finale.

Introduce younger children to music with Symphony Storytime, a short story-based music program to engage children, especially ages 3-5 through music. Encouraging a love of music, literacy, and discovery, Symphony Storytime exposes children to a diverse selection of stories, cultures, authors, narrative styles, readers, instruments, music, and musicians. Each engagement gives children the opportunity to participate in a dynamic, fun, and entertaining Storytime and get up close to a musician and an instrument. The Bozeman Symphony is thrilled to collaborate with community partners to bring Symphony Storytime to Montana children: Bozeman Public Library, Human Resource Development Council, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, MSU School of Music, Random Acts of Silliness, and the World Language Initiative.

Rising star of the cello, Jonathan Swensen, will take center stage with Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A Minor, a work as enigmatic as it is expressive. Unlike traditional concertos, Schumann seamlessly weaves its three movements into a continuous flow, creating a dreamlike narrative. The opening unfolds with a transcendent, almost improvisatory quality, leading into a second movement of profound lyricism.

Romantic Splendor: Schumann & Schubert

Enjoy the gentle beauty of Clair de lune —French for “moonlight”— one of the most recognizable pieces in Debussy’s repertoire. This work will immerse you in a dreamlike atmosphere, using open harmonies, unconventional scales, and fluid melodic lines. Just as Impressionist painters captured the fleeting play of light rather than rigid details, the music evokes shifting moods and delicate soundscapes.

Lyrical Landscapes: Mahler, Walton, & Clair de lune
