Liverpool-based singer-songwriters Astles and Abby Meysenburg host the fifth edition of their annual Christmas show in the Music Room. Joined by an array of friends, musicians and creatives, Astles will also re-assemble the full Balloon Moon Orchestra – including a string quartet and harp – for this special evening that signals the start of the festivities every year.

The radical East London duo are known for their intense live shows exploring the raw holler of folk, synths, spoken word and intricate rustic dobro guitar. When one of the world’s most celebrated gypsy jazz guitarists reworks the world’s greatest band’s music, magic can happen. George Harrison was a fan and friend of Robin Nolan, one of the world’s leading authorities on gypsy jazz guitar. Nolan’s new album was recorded using three of George’s famous Beatles guitars. This is the first time these guitars have been recorded since the 70s, anexciting prospect for all Beatles fans. Robin will play songs from the new record, original compositions and some favourite gypsy jazz classics. The line up also features UK guitar virtuoso Chris Quinn.

In the 21st century Elliott Carter’s last orchestral piece, a “series of short interrelated episodes”, is an often lyrical and moving farewell to life, whilst a similar dark beauty occupies the genre defying music of North West based Phoenix Rousiamanis. 'This is Halloween’… Join us as we step into Halloween Town with a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas. This Academy Award nominated stop-motion musical fantasy tells the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, who discovers Christmas Town and plots to take charge of the festive season. With a magical soundtrack by Danny Elfman, this screening comes ahead of two fantastic Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra concerts that feature music from the acclaimed composer. Everyone loves Jupiter from Holst’s The Planets, but tonight you’ll hear so much more as Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Manze takes the Orchestra on a voyage to infinity and beyond. We’ll join William Walton in a Spitfire over wartime London – and travel to 1939 New York, where the young British firebrand Arthur Bliss brings the house down with a volcano of a piano concerto played by Mark Bebbington.

Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra have been gleefully trampling over genre boundaries for over a decade now, chucking rockabilly, blues, country, swing, soul and more into their musical gumbo, but always sounding mostly just like themselves. Based in Newcastle but hailing from across the UK, the Tea Pad have released five albums, and toured widely across the British Isles and Europe, playing everywhere from Glastonbury and Cambridge Folk Festival to village halls and barns, and all points in between.

Leo has spent over five decades as an iconic singer and songwriter. 2024 will also see the release of his upcoming autobiography, Just A Boy.
