And all wrapped up with sparkling virtuoso dance from BRB's brilliant dancers, fairy-tale characters, dazzling spectacle, and Tchaikovsky's glorious music played live by the acclaimed Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

At her parents’ lavish Christmas party, Clara is given a mysterious Nutcracker Doll. Once all the guests have left, she sneaks downstairs to find her present and comes face-to-face with the fearsome King Rat, ready to do battle with the Nutcracker and his band of toy soldiers. As soon as King Rat is vanquished, Clara is whisked away on a magical adventure with the Nutcracker, travelling through swirling snowflakes to an enchanting kingdom where she is transformed into the Sugar Plum Fairy.

This year Freefall Dance Company celebrates 21 years of entertaining, inspiring performances and impacting attitudes towards learning disabled performers.

Performed by the Company's leading dancers, the show is full of sparkling classical highlights that include Frederick Ashton’s exquisite Rhapsody (Rachmaninov), created for Mikhail Baryshnikov and Lesley Collier, Carlos’s own temperature-raising Carmen (after Bizet), Ben Van Cauwenbergh's popular French chanson-inspired Je ne regrette rien (Edith Piaf) and Les Bourgeois (Jacques Brel), Carlos’s interpretation of Fokine’s The Dying Swan (Saint-Saëns; accompanied live by BRB's Head of Piano and Principal Cello), and spectacular pas de deux from Bournonville’s delightful La Sylphide, the explosive Diana and Actaeon, and the iconic Swan Lake (Tchaikovsky).

A colourful host of endangered animals seek shelter from the storm in David Bintley’s ‘Still Life’ at the Penguin Café. Featuring a morris-dancing flea, a ballroom-dancing ram, a hoe-downing rat, a majestic zebra and many more, this is an ‘unforgettable’ (Sunday Times), witty and enjoyable, yet bittersweet and poignant look at human impact on the world. All danced to Simon Jeffes’s delightful score, originally composed for the Penguin Café Orchestra.
