The Fortune Theatre, succinctly described as the ‘most intimate of theatres’ first opened in 1924 and was built on the site of the Old Albion Tavern making it the first London theatre to be built after World War I. World War II saw the venue being used by ENSA, the concert party for corp of the forces. Since then, many celebrated actors have performed on its stage. Amongst the impressive roll call are; Dame Judy Dench, Dirk Bogarde and Maureen Lipman. The Fortune is most closely associated with its longest-running production of The Woman in Black which became a West End legend during its 33 year run. The Fortune Theatre is now home to the critically acclaimed musical Operation Mincemeat, which has received 58 5-star reviews.
