Leas Cliff Hall

Folkestone, United Kingdom

Leas Cliff Hall, located in Folkestone, Kent, opened on July 13, 1927, by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. Designed by Norwegian architect J S Dahl, the hall was built to replace the smaller Leas Shelter, constructed in 1894. Initially, the hall seated 900 and could accommodate 1,500 standing guests. During World War II, it served as a popular entertainment venue for servicemen and women, despite being a target for enemy aircraft. Post-war, the hall hosted numerous stars from stage, screen, and radio. Significant refurbishments include the pagoda-style box office in 1981 and the addition of the Channel Suite in 1999, which offers modern conference facilities with views over the English Channel. Leas Cliff Hall has seen performances by renowned acts such as The Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, and Stereophonics, as well as comedians like Victoria Wood and Jimmy Carr. The venue remains a key cultural and social hub in Folkestone.
