Fresh from their mind blowing set at Glastonbury, FLYTE has joined the Stage 1 Sunday night line up and will be bringing their big band with them!

 
Flyte is the project of English songwriters Will Taylor and Nick Hill. The pair met at secondary school, eventually settling in Hackney, London. Taylor’s parents were both English teachers and inevitably, various literary influences trickled into the duo’s music- the band taking it’s name from Sebastian Flyte of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited.

Herefordshire songwriter, Jakey Boy Hughes, creates melodic tunes matched with contemplative and personal narratives. Influenced by the great songwriting tradition of legends such as Lennon, McCartney, Brian Wilson, Harry Nilsson and Elliott Smith, as well as contemporary songsmiths such as Alex Turner and Adrianne Lenker, Jake sings original ballads with a steady voice and often with political undertones. He has performed on exciting stages across the country, from Latitude Festival to the Barbican Centre, and has amassed over seventy original songs broadcast on BBCIntroducing, BBC6Music and BBCWales, receiving support from Andrew Marston (BBCIntro), Tom Robinson (BBC6) and Adam Walton (BBCWales) in recent years. Jake will play new unreleased work as well as songs from his extensive back catalogue.

Award-winning singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist, renowned for her unwavering authenticity, Annie is a composer of honest, original folk songs. Through stories and experience, she powerfully captures the reality of existence in 21st Century Britain.

Turin Brakes celebrated the 20th Anniversary of their second album Ether Song in 2023 performing the album in full, along with other favourites, at sold out shows in the Autumn. Turin Brakes, founded by childhood friends Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian, released Mercury Prize nominated debut The Optimist Lp in March 2001 (achieving gold status in the UK) and followed it up in 2003 with their most commercially successful album - Ether Song. Produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Supergrass, The Kooks) it hit number 4 in the UK Official Album Charts. Arguably more sonically adventurous than their debut it features the Top 5 hit single Pain Killer (Summer Rain).

One of the most keenly anticipated elements of the Cambridge Folk Festival programme is the line-up for Emerging Talent Stage, The Den. Expertly curated and featuring the brightest rising stars of contemporary roots music, The Den offers Festival-goers the chance to see the stars of tomorrow in a charming, intimate setting. Future hitmakers Jake Bugg and Passenger first played The Den before headlining Stage 1 and over recent years Christian Raphael Prize winners Angeline Morrison and Katherine Priddy have followed suit.

Cambridge Folk Festival 2024 Artists Announced

We are delighted to welcome the Symphony Orchestra of India to Cambridge. The orchestra will be conducted by the eminent Wagnerian conductor Richard Farnes, who will perform in the second half a specially arranged suite featuring the profound and emotive music from Wagner’s last great opera, ‘Parsifal’.  The first half of the concert will begin with John Williams’ grand Imperial March from Star Wars and will be followed by Pavel Kolesnikov’s interpretation of Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto, one of the most challenging works in the piano repertoire.

The UK 2023 tour will be the orchestra’s biggest UK tour to date, and the first time they have toured the UK in 22 years, after last playing in the UK in May 2001.
