Duke Ellington is undeniably one of the most prominent musical icons of the 20th century. His big band classics reach deep into your soul and transform you through their distinctive ensemble sounds. And they’re still amongst the most-performed today: Take the A Train, In A Sentimental Mood, Caravan, and of course, It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing). 

Tribute to Duke Ellington

Led by Adrian Kelly and Melissa Skinner, this group of superb musicians will create a vibrant and memorable afternoon of music-making featuring Duke Ellington’s stunning arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.

Our final concert concert opens with Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, a jubilant and jocular celebration of student life.

Principal Clarinet Allan Meyer will enthral you with Brahms’ Clarinet Sonata, rich with colour and heard here in Berio’s superb arrangement for full orchestra. Contrasting with all his previous symphonies and in the hands of Asher Fisch, Brahms’ final and finest Symphony No.4 makes for an unforgettable finale.

Multi-award-winning German-Korean violinist Clara-Jumi Kang makes her WASO debut with Brahms’ glorious Violin Concerto, in an irresistible explosion of sound.

Following a remarkable reception in 2022, Maestro Vasily Petrenko returns to conduct Brahms’ Second Symphony, a masterpiece bursting with colour and sweeping lyricism.

For his Australian debut, Shibe celebrates his Scottish heritage in a thrilling ride through the Highlands and beyond, with Shibe on classical guitar and Richard Tognetti directing the strings of the ACO. Then tradition is thrown to the wind as Shibe takes up his electric guitar and the ACO steps into a technicolour world of musical invention.

His new show, coincidentally called Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Live! is a nostalgic, one-man musical reflecting his love of comedy, music, life and what he calls mock and roll, a weird hybrid of comedy and music, with tributes to George Harrison and Robin Williams and a salute to The Rutles, the Beatle parody movie he created which was the world’s first ever mocumentary about the legendary pre-fab four whose legend will last a lunchtime.

Regarded as one of the most exciting violinists of her generation, Tur Bonet has delighted and fascinated fans across Europe with her performances of repertoire ranging from Bach to Messiaen. Now she makes her Australian debut with Musica Alchemica, her hand-picked ensemble who bring an honesty and a joyful sense of discovery to these works by Corelli, Telemann, Biber and other jewels of the Baroque.
