Chicago Shakespeare Theater, founded in 1986, is a prominent cultural institution located on Chicago's Navy Pier. It produces a diverse array of theatrical works, including plays, musicals, world premieres, and family productions, alongside educational programs for students and teachers. The theater presents up to twenty productions and 650 performances annually and has received numerous national and international awards, including a Regional Tony Award. Chicago Shakespeare is renowned for its international collaborations and has toured its productions to five continents. The theater's arts-in-literacy programs, recognized by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2014, bring Shakespeare's works to life for tens of thousands of students each year. The free Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks program, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2021, partners with neighborhood organizations to make theater accessible across the city. The theater's campus includes the Jentes Family Courtyard Theater, The Yard, and the Thoma Theater Upstairs. As a nonprofit, Chicago Shakespeare Theater is committed to service, ingenuity, and collaboration, engaging audiences and artists in meaningful conversations inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
