Jadasea is a crucial fixture in the local hip hop scene of South London – where he was born and raised. He first gained attention as a member of Sub Luna City, alongside his bandmates King Krule, Jesse James Solomon, Rago Foot, and Black Mack. Jadasea is an important bridge between London and New York City through his collaborations with rappers such as Wiki and MIKE (both of whom he has toured with). He has released a collaborative project with MIKE titled Old Earth, and more recently released The Corner: Vol. 1, a collaborative project with NYC producer Laron.

As Gum Takes Tooth, the duo of Thomas Fug and Jussi Brightmore plot an adventurous, idiosyncratic and wilfully unpredictable trajectory. Continuously exploring and mutating with an ever more nuanced approach while maintaining a staunch commitment to non-conformity, the band formed in East London in 2009 with wild gigs across the East London underground music and art scene. Early material coalesced primitive DIY Silver Apples electronics, blast beat mayhem, and experimental noise with explosive avant-punk energy.

Andrew Wasylyk’s cinematic compositions have been nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year Award and been awarded BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gideon Coe’s Album of the Year. He has collaborated with former National Poet for Scotland, Liz Lochhead, and written soundtracks for Radio 4.

Tommy Perman’s work as a musician and DJ has taken him across the world, with numerous record releases under his own name and with experimental group/arts collective FOUND, alongside visual works at the Sydney Opera House and National Museum of Scotland.

Beginning their DJ journey in 2020 in Edinburgh, Salam Kitty (FKA Halal Kitty) co-founded Mojxmma alongside Jam Eye out of necessity for a safe space for Queer People of Colour in the city. Now based in Glasgow, resident at Clyde Built Radio, they draw inspiration from their Arabic, African and Scottish roots to weave together eclectic, high energy sets across the genre spectrum. Born in Maryland, USA, Jalen Ngonda chose the city of Liverpool as the place in which he would flourish as a musician. It was at the age of 11 he began getting into music, inspired by his father’s collection of jazz, hip-hop, soul and classical records. Since moving to Liverpool in 2014 Jalen has been playing gigs across the UK and beyond. Two years later Jalen is selling out headline shows in London and Geneva, is breaking into the Viral Charts with his debut single and is supporting touring act such as Laura Mvula, Martha Reeves and Lauryn Hill at the Montreal Jazz Festival. With his tender soulful voice and bluesy arrangements, Jalen will leave you no choice but to be drawn into his world.

Elevate is a night showcasing the brilliant and diverse talents of disabled musicians from Drake Music Scotland. This gig is a celebration of diversity, creativity and the power of music.

The line up features a number of groups and solo performers playing classic covers and original compositions, all backed by a house band. The evening culminates in a headline set from The Varifocals, an over 60s rock band.

R.A.P. Ferreira fka milo aka scallops hotel is an MC, producer and theorist working in the Black arts tradition commonly categorised as rap. Having founded the label ruby yacht in 2015 and since releasing all of his music through this channel, Ferreira has earned a sizable following within independent hip hop by rigorous, constant touring and an elevated, explorational style of performance. He is known for an uncompromised, utopic flow that speaks directly to the root of the listener.

Burd Ellen is a project featuring Debbie Armour (Alasdair Roberts, Green Ribbons) and Gayle Brogan (Pefkin, Electroscope). The group uses traditional song to explore and evoke dark landscapes and deep stories. Innovative instrumentation, drone and sound-wash support detailed vocal work to create a unique sonic atmosphere. They are twice featured in The Guardian’s Folk Albums of the Year, 2020 and 2022.

Yeah You is the Welsh father/daughter duo Elvin Brandhi and Gustav Thomas. Their spontaneous sonic outpouring spews unfiltered into jagged pop requiems made from a variety of tools in endlessly shifting contexts.

In 2021 Holy Other returned with Lieve, his first new work to be released in nine years, and the start of a new chapter. Emerging from an extended stay at Bidston Observatory on the Wirral, Lieve was recorded throughout 2020 in the North West of England. Using the acoustics of the observatory — the cavernous basement and the geometrically-perfect wooden domes — Holy Other recorded and resampled material that would become the bedrock of Lieve. A marker in the sand as his first output since 2012’s critically-acclaimed Held, these recordings — including the voice of NYX’s Sian O’Gorman, violin from Simmy Singh and saxophone from Daniel Thorne — were cut, manipulated and pieced together to form Lieve

Lonnie Holley’s art and music, born out of struggle, hardship (but perhaps more importantly), out of furious curiosity and biological necessity, has manifested itself in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance, music and filmmaking. His music and lyrics are improvised on the spot and morph and evolve with every event, concert and recording.

Scottish smallpipes player Brìghde Chaimbeul (pronounched Breetch-er Hime-bowl) is a leading purveyor of experimental Celtic music. A native Gaelic speaker from the Isle of Skye, Brìghde’s style is rooted in her language and culture, but draws inspiration from a variety of global piping traditions, such as from Eastern Europe, Cape Breton and Ireland.

Despite being a relative newcomer to the live scene, the young artist has already performed at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, for Tiny Changes, Sofar Sounds, youth music project Musicplus+ and she’s been championed by Scotland On Sunday and secured airplay via Amazing Radio.

Curiosity Shop is an indie folk group based in Edinburgh, formed by Sonny Scott and Ru Wallace, high-school friends from the West coast of Scotland, who have been writing music together for years. Having moved to Edinburgh, Sonny and Ru formed musical friendships with Duncan Biggar, Yann McAuley, and Louis Hodgson, completing the band. This performance is led by Sonny, who weaves a diverse range of influence into music both individually and collaboratively written. With a set of music designed with intention and purpose, this performance marks the end of his degree, and the beginning of new musical exploration.

Beans released two LPs and one EP on Antipop Consortium’s former label Warp Records after launching his solo career in 2003. Recordings in 2005 were followed by the fourth album Thorns on Adored And Exploited in 2007. In 2011, Beans released his fifth solo album, End It All. on Anticon. It features productions by Four Tet, Sam Fogarino of Interpol, Clark and Son Lux.

Since forming in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2006 Broken Records have established themselves as one of Britain’s best live bands. They’ve toured the UK, Europe, and US extensively, supporting the likes of The National, and playing all major UK and international music festivals, including the main stages of Latitude and Green Man, Glastonbury, and Reading and Leeds.

Recorded (and produced) by Paul Savage over 2023’s spring and summer months in Chemikal Underground’s in-house studio Chem 19, Chorus of Doubt is fuelled by a burning desire to resist an encroaching, global tide of misery, informed by a wide-eyed sense of solidarity and the searing truth that a universal humanity is the only path out of darkness.

Artistic transformation is often associated with a blast of fanfare – the dramatic unveiling of a new look, or lofty announcement of the revelation that prompted such a change. In the case of Leftwich, reinvention transpires with significantly more subtlety on his latest album, Some Things Break. “It feels like a new voice, in a way” the York-born artist says. “I guess a more human and perhaps a more surrendered voice. Learning to hold on to certain things and let go of other with as much grace as possible… I feel like I’m hiding less on this record. Ultimately I think it’s a record about a kind of slow acceptance that some things break, and for me, sometimes that’s necessary for healing”.

Over the span of her career, Jolie Holland has knotted together a century of American song – jazz, blues, soul, rock and roll – into some stew that is impossible to categorise with any conventional critical terminology. This is her burden and her gift, to know all of these American songs of the last ten decades in her head and her heart, and to have to wrestle with their legacy. She dives straight to the pathos of a song the way the very greatest singers, singers like Mavis Staples, or Al Green, or Skip James, or Tom Waits do. Upon first encounter her songs seem challenging, perhaps unsettling at times, but as so many poets and rockers have shown us that’s where the beauty lies. As evident on her first recordings, Holland apparently has no fear of the truth, and there is no emotional core that she cannot reach in song. In fact she thrives on the red hot centre of a musical composition, in all its strange and brutal detail.

Ozric Tentacles are regarded as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK’s festival scene, formed during the solstice at Stonehenge Free Festival 1983 going on to become psychedelic staples at Glastonbury and other festivals. The creative vision of multi-instrumentalist Ed Wynne, the Ozrics’ uniquely trippy soundscapes connect fans of progressive rock, psychedelia and dance music culture. After a prolonged hiatus the band released the 2020 album Space For The Earth (K-Scope).

Nottingham-based songwriter and producer Jack Kenworthy’s life was upended in February 2021, months before the release of his debut album Wake, when his brother-in-law Greg Baker was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. What followed was the most unbelievable year of a family’s togetherness when life seemed set on fracturing the life of a young man. Kenworthy found that the family’s journey together in the face of adversity was both brutal and beautiful

After three sold out dances in 2023, Edinburgh Dub Club returns in a unity style with the original Scottish rootsman Messenger Soundsystem playing alongside Mighty Oak Sound.

This is a dub / reggae dance in the traditional sense – 2 hand-build and highly regarded soundsystems meeting up for a friendly session whereby each sound takes turns to select rare and exclusive records from their extensive collections, with many dubplates pulled to generate extra excitement.

Sunda Arc are brothers Nick Smart and Jordan Smart, best known as two-thirds of jazz-influenced minimalists Mammal Hands. Sunda Arc channels Nick and Jordan’s love of electronic and dance music, without losing any of their deep musicality.

Drawing on techno, electronica, neo-classical and post-rock influences, Sunda Arc compose and perform using both electronic and acoustic instruments, including analogue synthesisers, home-made software patches, piano, saxophones and bass clarinet – all finessed and channelled through their own unique creative strategies.

Blue Giant Orkestar are a tunetastic trans-European gold-plated instrumental hydra of nuclear brass, searing fiddle, pounding tuba, one enormous Russian concert accordion and a percussion section that could flatten your house.

Fuelled by Balkan horos, Serbian brass festivals, Turkish pop songs, Bulgarian accordion fireworks and even a spot of Scottish ceilidh, they play powerful and intricate originals as well as arrangements from many nations and peoples.

John Maus is a truly enigmatic musician. Broadly cut from the synth pop cloth, he’s fashioned the frosty minimalism of its fabric into a cloak of infinite meaning, genuine grace and absurdist humour over the course of three defining albums since 2006. His music is a highly mutable affair, whilst often described as retro-futurist on behalf of the 80’s drum machines and synth sounds employed, John’s music is more personal than the nostalgic re-tread implied. There’s a cinematic quality to his songs, with pathos conjured through propelling bass-lines, trailing arpeggios and of course his deeply resonant vocal.
