Frederick’s annual film competition returns for year 19! Over 740 films have been made throughout the first 18 years for the Fest, showcasing talent from across the region. Dozens of teams consisting of writers, directors, actors, set designers, editors, composers and other screen artists will have only a weekend to make a short film. All of the shorts premiere Friday night over two blocks, with the finalists and award winners showcasing again on Saturday night. The 72FF Award Ceremony directly follows the Saturday night screenings.

A novelist – Jack Torrance takes a job interview as winter caretaker of the isolated, old, huge and beautiful Overlook Hotel. Jack brings his wife – Wendy and his son Danny. Commemorating the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, Barron, a lifelong Tulsan, seeks to infuse beauty into the memory of this tragic event. Through a new composition for violin, cello, and piano, he captures the journey from struggle to triumph. Join Barron, Christopher Whitley on violin, and Alex Cox on cello for an evening of soul-stirring music.

Rousing and raucous, Scythian (sith-ee-yin) plays roots music from Celtic, Eastern European and Appalachian traditions with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling songwriting, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance, rock concert experience. Les Miserables (1998)

Warren Wolf, a multi-instrumentalist from Baltimore, Maryland, began his musical journey at age three. Trained on vibraphone, drums, and piano, he studied at Peabody Preparatory and Baltimore School for the Arts before attending Berklee College of Music. Mentored by Caribbean jazz vibraphonist Dave Samuels, Warren became a prominent figure on the Boston music scene. Now an international touring artist and music professor, he teaches at Peabody Conservatory and San Francisco Conservatory.

Ruby Bridges is a Civil Rights icon, activist, author, and speaker who at the age of six was the first Black student to integrate an all-white elementary school alone in Louisiana. She was born in Mississippi in 1954, the same year the United States Supreme Court handed down its landmark decision ordering the integration of public schools. Her family later moved to New Orleans, where on November 14, 1960, Bridges began attending William Frantz Elementary School, single-handedly initiating the desegregation of public education. Her walk to the front door of the school was immortalized in Norman Rockwell’s painting The Problem We All Live With, in Robert Coles’ book The Story of Ruby Bridges, and in the Disney movie Ruby Bridges.

In 1938, Walter Neff, an experienced salesman of the Pacific All Risk Insurance Co., meets the seductive wife of one of his clients, Phyllis Dietrichson, and they have an affair. Phyllis proposes to kill her husband to receive the proceeds of an accident insurance policy and Walter devises a scheme to receive twice the amount based on a double indemnity clause. When Mr. Dietrichson is found dead on a train track, the police accept the determination of accidental death.
