Marianna Shirinyan is the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra's Artist in Residence – and we're celebrating that with an entire concert featuring only piano. Verdi wrote the opera La Traviata in 1853 , based on Alexandre Dumas' novel The Lady of the Camellias about the courtesan Marie Duplessis. The novel, as well as Verdi's opera, has since been the basis for many interpretations, such as the films Pretty Woman and Moulin Rouge, as well as a long series of ballets, novels and plays. The woman's decline and her apparent lack of moral compass have always fascinated.

The host of the day was music promoter, pianist, radio and TV host Mathias Hammer, who guided the audience through a musical afternoon, where soloists Laura Helene Hansen, Thorbjørn Gulbrandsøy and Asmus Hanke could be experienced on the outdoor stage. The singers could be experienced together with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and the Jutland Opera Choir, conducted by our own chief conductor, Christopher Lichtenstein.

Party and celebration – and a few of the most breathtaking works in music history: We welcome our new chief conductor in style. Dmitry Matvienko (Dima) will lead the orchestra for the next three seasons - and this concert is his official accession concert. We celebrate that with fireworks – (almost) quite literally: in Stravinsky's bubbling, exuberant firework music, we can hear the rockets' luminous dance across the sky.

Come back to the birth of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra - quite literally: Composers Allan Gravgaard Madsen and Morten Riis have written a jubilee work for the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, where the audience can experience the original orchestra's sound - and the original concert venues.

A captivating and climate-relevant story in music and images about the ocean – and about our shared connection to life below the surface.
The myth of Sassuma Arnaa (Mother of the Sea) is a story about the Greenlandic Inuit people's relationship with nature, the sea and the animals they hunt: When the catch failed due to people's greed and lack of gratitude, the village's Angakok (spiritual healer) had to make the dangerous journey down to Sassuma Arnaa to untangle her tangled hair, where seals, whales, grouse, polar bears and fish were trapped. Only in this way could the people survive.

The chamber concerts are a unique opportunity to experience the most intimate moments of classical music – and get closer to the members of the symphony orchestra. Brahms' Requiem is one of the most weighty works in the classical concert hall. It is permeated with a universal spirituality – and above all, with comfort. It is not a work for the dead; instead, it is a work for the living. Darkness always becomes light in Brahms.
