Latina K Presents Spoilers A Timey Wimey “Dr. Who” Inspired Event

Cameron Carpenter is the world’s most visible organist, the first ever to be nominated for a GRAMMY Award for a solo album. He holds the 2012 Leonard Bernstein Award, and in 2014, launched his International Touring Organ (ITO)- a first-of-its kind digital organ built to his own design. He is a virtuoso composer/performer who is smashing the stereotypes of organ and classical music. Cameron’s latest album, recorded at the Berlin Konzerthaus includes his own rendition of Bach’s Goldberg Variations as well as Hanson’s Symphony #2, and was released by Universal / DECCA in the fall of 2021. One of his previous releases, ‘All You Need is Bach’ debuted at #1 on the traditional classical charts. Recent highlights include recitals with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Lucerne Festival, Philharmonie Cologne, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Philharmonie Luxembourg, his debut at the Cité de La Musique, Paris and a residency at Konzerthaus Berlin.

Celebrate the grand finale of SOGO’s 25th anniversary season with a spectacular concert! Join us as we embark on a musical journey with the Conservatory Orchestra performing Dvořák’s lively Polka for Prague Students, followed by the enchanting Andante and Rondo Ongarese by Carl Maria von Weber, featuring the virtuosity of senior clarinetist Diego Cortes-Monroy. The evening culminates in a celestial performance of Mars and Jupiter from Holst’s epic The Planets, presented in a thrilling side-by-side collaboration with members of the Olympia Symphony Orchestra. The Brass Choir and Academy and Philharmonic orchestras will also perform. This unforgettable concert promises to highlight the extraordinary talent of over 160 young musicians from across the South Sound region.

Tobi Stone has a strong connection to Olympia through her many years of studying with local legend and saxophonist Bert Wilson. Bert supported her playing and development from the time she was in high school and encouraged her to compose and find her voice. In this concert, Tobi presents her compositions spanning the last 10 years.

Maria is an in-demand drummer and educator known throughout the Pacific Northwest. She is no stranger to the Seattle jazz scene performing in such venues as The Earshot Jazz Festival, Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, The Triple Door, The Seattle Art Museum, and Tula’s. As a bandleader her groups have been featured at the Portland Jazz Festival, the North Bend Jazz Walk, and Edmonds Jazz Walk. Maria is also an in-demand educator adjudicating jazz festivals and making guest appearances at local colleges in addition to presenting at state and national conferences. Her original compositions have been featured on KPLU’s Jazz Northwest and she can be heard as a guest artist and mentor on KPLU’s School of Jazz Volumes 6, 7, and 10. Formerly, she was director of the Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra and served as instrumental jazz and percussion faculty at Pacific Lutheran University and South Puget Sound Community College.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and now calling Colorado home, horticulturist/musician Gregory Alan Isakov has cast an impressive presence on the indie-rock and folk worlds with his six full-length studio albums: That Sea, The Gambler; This Empty Northern Hemisphere; The Weatherman; Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony; Evening Machines (nominated for a Grammy award for Best Folk Album), and his newest album, Appaloosa Bones. The 56th Army Band hails from Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington home to America’s First Corps. Disney Pixar’s Coco Live-to-Film Concert features a screening of the complete film with Oscar® and Grammy®-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s musical score performed by the 20-member Orquesta Folclórica Nacional de México. In addition to the original score by Giacchino, “Coco” also features the Oscar®-winning song “Remember Me” by Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco and co-director and screenwriter Adrian Molina.

The Native American canon is rife with haunting stories, curses, omens, and portents; menacing monsters, treacherous shape-shifters, and cunning tricksters. “The Land Has Spoken” brings these stories to life with tales by Native Dark Fiction writers Shane Hawk (enrolled Cheyenne-Arapaho, Hidatsa and Citizen Potawatomi descent) and Andrea L. Rogers (citizen of the Cherokee Nation). Immerse yourself in a chilling radio-style drama with stories acted by all Indigenous cast.
