After a successful run of performances at Smith Square Hall in 2024, Opera Holland Park brings back Will Todd’s enchanting musical retelling of A Christmas Carol. Scored for eight singers, a trio of piano, double bass and accordion, and narrator, Todd weaves the melodies of traditional Victorian carols and the midwinter chimes of handbells through each episode of Charles Dickens’s seasonal ghost story.

The main item is Le villi, Puccini’s first opera, written to a libretto based on the same legend as the ballet Giselle. Entered in 1883 into a competition for one-act operas and rejected by the judges, Le villi was staged in Milan the following year and brought Puccini to the attention of Ricordi, the influential publisher, setting him on the path to fame.
