Leonce, son of the owner of Popo GmbH, is bored out of his mind – and Lena is equally weary of life. Now the two are to be married without ever having met, and on top of that, Leonce is supposed to take over his father's company after the wedding. To escape his fate, Leonce and his new companion Valeria flee to Italy in search of la dolce vita. What they don't know is that Lena, who has been assigned to him, and her companion, governess Konstante, have also fled the lives planned for them. At their refuge, the two pairs meet, and Leonce and Lena fall in love – unaware that they are destined for each other anyway.

Friends Bérenger and Jean are chatting on a café terrace one Sunday afternoon when suddenly a rhinoceros charges across the square. While everyone present discusses the incident in astonishment and horror, only Bérenger remains unmoved. The next day at the office, the event is hotly debated – until Madame Boeuf bursts in, delivers her husband's sick note, and breathlessly reports that a rhinoceros followed her. Soon after, it rushes up the stairs and is identified by Madame Boeuf as her husband. Gradually, more and more inhabitants of the provincial town transform into angry pachyderms. And suddenly, they are in the majority. Anyone who wants to belong also transforms – "one has to move with the times, after all."

Fourteen-year-old Jonas has had enough: One day, he suddenly stops eating. His grandmother, parents, and sister Billie are worried and try to figure out the reasons for his refusal. Is he having problems at school? Is Jonas trying to express his protest by refusing food? But against what? Is he rebelling against his family, society, against everything? It's hard to say, because at the same time as his food strike, Jonas also refuses all communication.
